Be Sure to Take Your Vitamins

Do we need them, or are we wasting our money?

Since we were children we have been told to take our vitamins.  Have you ever asked yourself why?  Vitamins are expensive.  A bottle of multivitamins can’t cost upwards of $30.  Some direct you to take them two and three times a day!

Do we need them?

The short answer, probably not.  The average North American gets all the vitamins and minerals they need from a reasonably varied diet, even if they don’t get the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables a day. The body can only absorb a certain amount of vitamins and minerals in a day.  Any excess is flushed out in your urine.  Ever notice after you start taking a multivitamin your urine changes colour? You are literally peeing your money away.

Talk to you doctor before you buy

On the other hand some people do have vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  How do you know if this is you?  Talk to your doctor.  They will be better equipped to deal with your specific health issues than any commercial.  A doctor will be able diagnose your problem and be able to prescribe a proper course of action, which may be taking a multivitamin or, it may not.

Remember selling vitamins is their business

Vitamin companies are trying to sell you vitamins, that’s their business, not making you healthy.  Their whole marketing strategy is based around making you believe you need their product.  You owe it to yourself and you bank account to find out if you are one of the people that should be taking some kind of vitamin or not.

I’m not suggesting vitamin companies are some kind of evil empire.  They are simply trying to sell their product to make a profit.  Vitamins are a fairly safe product to use, but before buying just ask yourself “Do I need them?” your wallet will thank you.
