Better Food Choices
You can substitute similar food and still cut out fat and calories. It is always best to cook your food from scratch but when you must grab a bite away from home, just a few changes can make a difference.
Smart substitutes will help you slim down and be healthier. You can make easy changes that will give you more nutrients and cut back on excessive calories and fat.
- Instead of Bread and butter, try Baguette dipped in olive oil and vinegar. Vinegar is rich in acetic acid, which stabilizes blood sugar, and olive oil is better for your heart than artery clogging butter.
- Instead of Pan fried pork dumplings, try a cup of wonton soup. You will trim 257 calories and 22 grams of fat.
- Instead of Cheese calzone, try a Slice of stuffed crust pizza. The pizza has 410 fewer calories and 12 grams less grams of fat.
- Instead of vegetable soup, try Split pea soup. You will get 10 grams of protein. That’s more than what is in a glass of milk or an egg.
- Instead of Grilled veggie burrito, try chicken burrito bowl. You will get 160 less calories, 26 less grams of fat- and gain 4 grams of fiber.
- Instead of a small order of nachos, try one cup chili with 1 Tlbsp low fat cheddar cheese and 10 tortilla chips. You will get 300 less calories and 20 grams less fat. Beans are also a good source of protein and fiber.
- Instead of Diet soda, try Coffee. Coffee’s a top source of antioxidants.
- Instead of Hummus and pita wedges, try Hummus and Red pepper wedges. Red peppers are rich in beta-cryptoxanthin, an antioxanthin that may prevent lung cancer.
- Instead of Hotdog with a small serving of Fries, try veggie burger with 1/2 cup baked beans. You will cut 22 fat grams and gain 7 grams of fiber.
- Instead of Flavored water, try 4 oz. of grape juice mixed with 4 oz. seltzer. Grape juice has resveratrol which may keep your heart healthy.
- Instead of Spaghetti with broccoli, try Udon noodles with broccoli, garlic and sesame oil. A bowl of udon noodles made from whole wheat has 40% more fiber.
- Instead of Chocolate glazed doughnut, try French cruller and you will save 190 calories.

Thank you my friends for your interest and your comments. These choices are not the best and healthiest foods but when you are out and don’t have a good choice at least these are better than the more calorie and fat laden foods. Good health to all of you. Ruby
