Brazil Nut Milk
Rich, creamy, sweet, and nutty, this is a healthy alternative to milk (dairy) and soy milk.
Many of us like myself battle with the bulge, losing weight is no easy task. As a result I have been trying to find healthy substitutes for the things I love. One of my favorite drinks to have is milk. Yes I said it, I love milk!! Hence the quest to find a replacement. Tried soy, was okay but still not the same, then like a bolt of lightning I was inspired to try nut milk.
Let the experiments begin
In Jamaica, where I am from we use a lot of coconut milk, we add it to our soups, rice & peas, stews, pastries and many other dishes. Because of this familiar taste, that was my first choice. However though delicious in many dishes, coconut milk doesn’t go too well with cereal. Hence the quest continued to find the perfect replacement. Almond milk was tried, delicious!, almond -pecan, almond -walnut, coconut – almond but by far the most delicious of all the nut milks is Brazil Nut milk.
Nutritious Content
My research has shown that these nuts have a nutritional breakdown of 18% protein, 13% carbohydrates, 69% fats and are a good source of magnesium, thiamine and selenium. Therefore, I must declare that I have found a nutritious and delicious replacement. I know there is no mention of calcium but increasing one’s intake of dark leafy vegetables will do the trick.
Recipe
1. Soak Brazil Nuts in water for 8 hours or overnight.
The amount of nuts used will depend upon the amount of milk to be made.
2. Throw away the water used for soaking nuts and rinse thoroughly.
