Current Nutritional Issues

 

            Nutrition has always been of importance but now that we understand it more and more, it’s becoming paramount. Healthy eating leads to a healthy and better life, there is no two ways around it. Probably the most talked about and one of the most preventable issues is obesity. “Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and threatens to impact the health and well-being of numerous children and adolescents”. Fast food is a major contributor to obesity because the nutritional value of it is terrible. As well as Obesity some other nutritional issues include: Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, Amenia, Heart diseases, gastritis and countless others, all of which can be controlled, avoided or helped with proper nutrition and specific foods/diets.

 

            Diabetes is an excellent example of how important diet and nutrition is to your health. If you have Diabetes, specifically type 2, then not having a proper diet can be fatal. Type 2 is a cause of the inability to use insulin which allows the body to get energy from glucose. Without a properly watched intake of sugars your body does not functions properly

 

            All these nutritional problems require specific foods to help control or avoid them and it can be difficult to know what those are. Often in grocery stores you can find foods that specifically market towards diseases. They may say low in fat to appeal to people who have weight problems or something similar.

 

            Gastritis another issue, is what I am researching in this project. It is the inflammation of the lining of the stomach. Gastritis has many symptoms including intense stomach pain, abdominal bloating, and nausea and vomiting. Diet related causes include excess alcohol consumption as well as prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Surgery, infections, traumatic injury and severe burns may also cause Gastritis. No spicy or acidic food can be eaten by someone with Gastritis if they don’t want severe pain, and vitamin A as well as Zinc can be used to help rebuild the damaged stomach lining
