Do You Ever Fudge on Chocolate? Do You Ever Wonder Why You Have Those Pesky Food Cravings?
This is an explanation of cravings–why they occur, and what to do about them.
Do You Ever Fudge on Chocolate? Do You Ever Wonder Why You Have Those pesky Food Cravings?
Ever wonder why you can’t stop with just one or two bites? You probably think weak willpower is to blame. Right? Think again.
There are certain foods that just beg for our consumption. Why? The reason may lie in the fact that some are mood enhancing. Some are habit-forming. Some are due to a hormonal imbalance. In other words, it may be a strictly physical thing.
Red meat triggers tryptophan, a mood enhancing essential amino acid. Cheese is high in casein, a protein with opiate properties similar to morphine. Sugar increases our levels of serotonin and endorphins, which make us feel good. Most women are painfully aware of chocolate’s magic potion # nine effects that lead to feelings of euphoria, attraction, and excitement.
Adrenal fatigue is another cause of cravings, and occurs when you are under stress or have sleep deprivation. You feel exhausted, which leads to adrenal exhaustion. You feel the need for a pick-me-up, and resort to sugary carbohydrates, caffeine, or alcohol. This just feeds your cravings, and causes a cycling effect of high and lows.
What can we do about cravings? First of all, do not blame your willpower, or lack thereof. The problem may be inadequate nutritional support. To break this cycle, eat more nutritionally-packed, healthy foods, take pharmaceutical-grade supplements, and start an exercise program. Your metabolism will straighten itself out if you are persistent in following this regimen.
To help, remove temptation. Put sugary and high carbohydrate snacks away, or get rid of them altogether. Snack on yogurt, carrots, celery, nuts, and other light snacks, and keep them close by so you will reach for those instead. Cut out the super-size meals and snacks. Don’t fall for the bite-size snacks unless you put a strict limit on them and stick to it.
And the most welcome advice? You don’t have to give up chocolate! Just keep to a pre-decided amount, and don’t fudge.
