Eat at Right Time, Stay Trim

Eat at the right time of day if you really want to drop those extra pounds.

Eat at the right time of day if you really want to drop those extra pounds, a study suggests.

Researchers at Northwestern University have found that eating at unusual times influences weight gain. They say that eating in the middle of the night, when the body wants to sleep, is not right as the regulation of energy by the body’s circadian rhythms may play an important role.

“How or why a person gains weight is very difficult to state, but it obviously is not just calories in and calories out,” said Fred Turek, of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology.

Researchers observed that mice fed a high-fat diet during usual sleeping hours gained significantly more weight than those given the similar type and amount of food during naturally wakeful hours.

Researchers said that the body’s internal clock control energy use and that is why the timing of meals may be important to balancing caloric intake and expenditure. They say that their findings may have implications for developing strategies to fight obesity in human beings.

  1. Great article!

  2. I found this article to be needing something it didn’t have, all I got was researchers this and researchers that. Also, what you didn’t take into account is a persons working hours or shifts they work, does he/she work out or stay very active.Eating the right food alone wont do much good if you are not active.I also believe that heredity plays a part in this, but to what degree I do not know. Some medication plays a part in a bit of weight gain as well. And not everyone sleeps at night due to various reasons.Working at a fitness center helps me learn things others don’t get a chance to learn. And again, not all people can be thin no matter what we …you didn’t account for that either.Instead of stating what a researcher said…you may have wanted to find information to back up what these researchers stated in your article.

  3. This is a good point when one wants to lose weight.
