Energizing Breakfasts
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Here are some tips on how to make sure that the first thing you eat energizes you and makes you last until lunch.
The most important part of any breakfast is getting the balance right. You need to include carbohydrates, protein and fat.
- Oatmeal soaked overnight in soy milk (slow releasing carbohydrates). Mix with more soy milk in the morning and add wither sunflower seeds or dried fruit to taste.
- Avocado smoothie: blend 1 avocado; 2tspn soy milk and 1 cup of ice.
- Wholemeal toast and peanut butter (low in sugar and salt.) You could also use almond or sunflower seed butter, if you prefer.
- Baked beans (no added sugar or salt) on wholemeal toast with polyunsaturated fat spread.
Things to avoid
- Carbohydrate only breakfasts, for example cereals (especially ones which contain sugar.) They will raise your blood sugar quickly and then let it plummet leaving you hungry and tired.
- The traditional fry-up. Too much fat will make you feel sluggish and is extremely bad for your heart.
- Coffee. Although it may feel energizing coffee contains stimulants which make your pulse race and raise stress levels.

Well, I admit…I drink coffee and eat cereal!! I will try to substitute the cereal with the wholemeal toast and peanut butter and maybe the oatmeal.
Thanks for the info!!!
