Energy Drinks – Healthy?
This is a small article I wrote based on personal experiences and facts having to do with health issues of energy drinks.
For 2 years now, I have been a constant drinker of the Monster Energy Drink. I have been warned by family, teachers, and friends that it is an unhealthy habit. I agreed at first, but when I started noticing the effects it had on my mentality and my physical shape, I did not take their opinions into account.
Sure, Monster, and a number of other energy drinks include high amounts of Sugar and Caffeine. The sugar is what you would expect to mess with your physical well being, which is why I need to start by saying this… Almost all energy drinks have a SUGAR FREE version that provides the same kick.
Aside from the sugar and caffeine, energy drinks contain a number of healthy vitamins. These include and are not limited to:
- Vitamin b12
- Ginseng
- Carnitine
- Vitamin b6
- Riboflavin
These vitamins all provide part of the “kick” or “buzz” of these energy drinks, but I think they have other uses too.
Remember how I said that I’ve been drinking these drinks for 2 years? One thing I failed to mention was the effects it had on me during those 2 years. As a Sophomore in high school, I pulled off a C average. During winter break, I discovered Monster and was instantly hooked. For my final semester, I was almost a B average. Upon my completion of my Junior year, I was at a high B average (At that point I was having an energy drink almost every day).
This summer, I have consumed a Low Carb Monster Energy Drink every day almost. I have lost almost 15 pounds in the last 2 months, which for my age is a lot. For the record I am not fat. I am 6 foot 1, very skinny and weigh 160 pounds.
So the big question. Are they healthy or not? I would say that If you consume the one that’s right for your body, and you don’t abuse, you will have no health problems, and may even benefit.

Caffeine is extermely addicting. I have done a test on the drug. The test subjects who consumed aprox. 12 grams. (the amt of caffeine in a cup of coffee) a day became addicted to the substance. Also other reasearch supports my findings. Caffeine is a stimulate durg. And after months or even weeks of using it the brain forms an addiction. You will suffer from withdrawl symotoms if you continue to consume the drink. Symptoms such as nausa, headaches, and stomach pains. For more facts I would suggest to conduct your own reasearch rather than take others word.
