Fabulous Fiber

Fiber is an important part of overall health.

Fiber is not an actual nutrient. But fiber is an important part of overall health. Fruit and vegetables are a wonderful source of soluble fiber.

Two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble.

Soluble fiber mixes with liquids to form a kind of gel. Soluble fiber is the kind of fiber found in certain fruits, as well as beans, peas, legumes, and oats. It can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels.

Insoluble fiber provides bulk in our diets. This is the kind of fiber found in wheat bran. Insoluble fiber promotes the movement of material through your digestive. Whole-wheat flour, wheat bran, nuts and many vegetables are good sources of insoluble fiber.

Add to that the vitamins and minerals they supply, the fact that they are low in calories and you know why you should eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Opt for whole-grain bread, whole-wheat pasta and brown rice. This will not only curb your hunger for longer, but also supply your body with fiber.

Also, dietary fiber helps maintain the blood sugar level e Fiber, particularly soluble fiber, can slow the absorption of sugar, which for people with diabetes, and can help improve blood sugar levels. A high-fiber diet may also reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Dietary fiber slows down the eating process because it demands that food be chewed thoroughly. It helps contribute to a feeling of being full and in turn prevents us from overeating and obesity. Soluble fiber positively influences cholesterol, triglycerides and other particles in the blood that affect the development if heart disease. Dietary fiber is An essential part of a healthy diet.
