Many people get confused about whether fruit juice is good or bad for health. Some people think it is great for the health and others feel it is not so harmless. The fact is, fruit juice is normally good for the health. If it is a hundred percent pure fruit juice then it’s a great way to get lots of nutrients which are essential for our health. Fruit juices are packed with vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals - all these compounds are necessary for preventing and fighting disease. Normally, they are high in Vitamin C and highly rich in antioxidants. So, it’s a healthy drink and sometimes can be a substitute for fresh fruit.
But too much drinking of fruit juice can be a problem. It is important to be aware of how much and how often fruit juice is consumed. Too much drinking of fruit juice can ruin the appetite and it can also lead to obesity. If you are drinking juice throughout the day then it can increase the risk of cavities as lots of fruits contain natural sugar. Another important factor is juices do not contain the fiber that whole fruits contain. So, it’s evident that whole fruit is a much better choice than fruit juice.
The quantity of the juice is important. It is easier to consume several glasses of juice than to eat several whole fruits. Because of the lack of fiber in the fruit juice, it is less filling and you tend to drink much more than you actually need. This can lead to excessive intake of calories and that’s why fruit juice is related to weight gain and obesity.
Fruit juice is undoubtedly good for health for its nutrition value. But you must know how much you should drink to get the ideal benefits from fruit juice. Do not drink too much fruit juice and remember it’s always a better idea to eat fresh whole fruit to get all the nutrients in a balanced way.
