Impact of Hydrogenated and Partially Hydrogenated oils on Health.

Hydrogenated oils and partially hydrogenated oils are extremely harmful for the health. Hydrogenated oils are made by the process of hydrogenation, which is a chemical process of forcing hydrogen gas into the oil at high pressure and temperature. Once the oil is converted into hydrogenated oil, it becomes more shelf stable. Which means it can remain more stable than untreated oil and does not go rancid quickly. Many packaged food companies use hydrogenated oil in their products so that their food products last much longer. But these oils- hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated, are extremely bad for the health.

Once hydrogenated, unsaturated fatty acids in the oil are converted into saturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids are required for different body functions but saturated fats can cause many deadly diseases including cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Also, hydrogenated oils contain Trans fats or hydrogenated fats. Trans fats are extremely harmful and associated with increased levels of blood cholesterol. In addition, it decreases the levels of good cholesterol or HDL.

Hydrogenated oils can cause cancer, birth defects, diabetes, liver disease, ADHD and many more fatal diseases. Consumption of hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils can also cause impairs brain function and damages brain cells, Clogs blood, Clogs artery walls, infertility, poor immune function and cystic fibrosis.

Most of the packaged products contain partially hydrogenated Oil or hydrogenated oil. It is less expensive and used in the food industry for prolonging the shelf life of processed foods. But these oils are life threatening and called as silent killers.
