Fast Food: What It Can Do to You
The bad things about fast food.
Do you know what’s in your hamburger or anything else that you might get at a fast food restaurant? If you don’t, you should. The french fries taste good because when McDonald’s gets the french fries they are frozen and then dipped in vegetable oil and they use “natural flavor”. When “natural flavor” really isn’t natural at all, it’s actually a man-made additive that gives most fast food the flavor except artificial flavor does too. A nationwide study in 1996 found that 7.5 percent of ground beef samples taken at processing plants were contaminated with Salmonella, 11.7 percent were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, 30 percent were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus, and 53.3 percent were contaminated with Clostridium perfringens.
All of those pathogens can make people sick. In the USDA study 78.6 percent of the ground beef contained microbes that are spread by primarily by fecal material. There is feces in the meat of your hamburger that you get at McDonald’s. People were getting E. coli O157:H7 in 1997 and children and elderly people had more of a chance that they could die from it and some people did die. Therefore, fast food is worst than some people thought.
