Health Benefits of Eating Watermelons

Are you thinking of a weight control technique that will help you lose weight? Have you tried eating watermelons?

They are not only amazing thirst-quenchers. They are a powerhouse of nutrients which also works best for anyone’s weight management issues.

Citrullus Lanatus, commonly known as the watermelon, is considered as part of the melon family. It is then related of the family of cucumbers, pumpkins and squash. Watermelon fruits come from vine-like plants. It’s well in season during the hot days which makes it the best summer treat from nature.

Watermelon is composed of 92% water and 6% sugar. Being a low-fat food, this makes it a very good source of sweets for people who are trying to lose weight. It’s no wonder why this fruit is mostly included in weight management diets.

They are not only good for dieting; watermelons are also rich in nutritional contents. Like many fruits we know, watermelons are rich in vitamin C which helps in strengthening our immune systems. The red variety of watermelons is notably a good source of an antioxidant called the lycopene which help us battle cancel cells, similar to that found in tomatoes and carrots. 

Just like a carrot, watermelons are also rich in Vitamin A which is an essential element in caring for our eyes. Compared to any other fruits or vegetables, watermelon fruits contains the highest amounts of lycopene (more than that found in tomatoes). This gives us all the more reasons to include them in our daily meals.

Watermelons are amazing hydrites since it’s mostly composed of water. It’s rich in electrolytes like sodium and potassium which keeps us refreshed, especially in the hot season. It’s diuretic properties come from citrulline, a type of amino acid that produces arginine that ultimately helps us release ammonia from our body, by way of urine. This antioxidant also helps in maintaining the overall cardiovascular function of our body, not to mention lowering high blood pressure. Studies show that arginine in watermelon may improve insulit sentivitiy for obese type 2 diabetics.

Watermelon is filled with vitamins Bs – B5,B6,B1(Thiamine),B9 (Folate) B2 and B3. It’s also rich in magnesium and potassium. These nutrients don’t only provide us energy in doing our daily works, they also protect us from getting harmful diseases such as heart ailments and many kinds of cancer. In some respect, watermelons are the better choice of energy-booster rather than the commercial energy drinks which only tend dehydrate you.

Given the benefits we can derive from watermelon, don’t you think it’s time you get a bite?
