Healthy Cooking with Olive Oil
Making just a few changes to your cooking, can and will improve your meals.
Changing what oils and shortenings you use, will not only improve your health but it makes some dishes tastier. You can use olive oil for baking instead of using regular vegetable oil, be sure it is a light virgin olive oil, and use the same amount requested in your recipe. Try frying your eggs in olive oil instead of butter; this helps reduce your consumption of saturated fats.
Even though olive oil and the nutrients stand up to heat, a few things you can do to get the best results, try brushing olive oil on meats, fish, or potatoes before placing on the grill or in the oven; this will help keep your meat and fish, juicy. Olive oil does loose it olive flavor at high temperatures, so when brush it on vegetables and potatoes before baking, you need not worry about changing the taste of the food. If you must fry your food, heat the grill first, wait until the grill is hot before you add the olive oil, wait about sixty seconds before adding; patted dry food. When the food is added to the oil it should fizzle and bubble, we pat the food dry so that there is no barrier between the item and the oil.
When using olive oil for its great taste, which will retain it olive taste you can drizzle it over salads, or pasta; even add the oil to you meat after grilling. Olive oil is great to use for mashed vegetables instead of butter, also adds great flavor to Italian bread, instead of butter.
