Simple Switches in Cooking Cut Calories While Still Providing Full Flavor
Making small changes in the way you cook can add up to big savings in calories.
Sometimes you can cut calories by making a few simple switches that won’t sacrifice the flavor of the dish you are cooking.
One simple switch in cooking is going from cooking dishes in butter to cooking them with extra virgin olive oil. If you can cook it in butter, you can cook it in extra virgin olive oil, which is healthier and lower in calories than butter.
Replace all food white flour food products with whole grains and wheat food products. Switch from cooking with white flour to cooking with wheat flour, eat whole grain breads instead of white bread. Grains and whole wheat still provide full flavor while cutting calories.
Cut calories in your cooking by using less of the full flavor, full calorie ingredients instead of more of the reduced calorie ingredients. Using slightly less of a high calorie ingredient won’t change the flavor of the dish you are cooking, but it will cut calories.
Always read the food product labels. Just because a food item is labeled as ‘low calorie’ or ‘healthy’ does not mean it is the best choice. The food product may sacrifice flavor or be loaded with unwanted ingredients.
