Soy, the Other White Meat, or is It?
Five things people don’t want you to know about soy.
Five things you didn’t know about soy.
1. Contrary to popular belief, soy is not a staple food in the Middle East, in fact, the average Chinese/Japanese man/woman consumes less than 2 teaspoons of soy a day. It is considered a condiment rather than a food.
2. The soy we eat is bad. Contrary to another popular belief, the soy we (we being North Americans) eat can be incredibly harmful if eaten on a regular basis for it is full of anti-nutrients like phytates, trypsin, and phytoestrogens.
3. Soy does not help your bones, in fact, it increases your bodies need for calcium and vitamin D, making your bones even more unhealthy! Westerners already have calcium deficiency, and this will only make it worse!
4. Soy contributed to infertility. It is a proven fact that eating soy on a regular basis can lead to dcreased sperm count for men and painful, irregular periods for women.
5. Soy formulaes are not good substitutes for breast milk formulaes. Infants that were fed soy milk formulaes on a regular basis instead of breastfeeding have had reports of premature puberty(in both girls and boys), mental retardation, and learning disorders.
Soy has been “put on a wellness and health pedastal” and has failed many who have tried it, leaving them with problems that are difficult to treat. Not every health-fad is what it is cracked up to be. A little research goes a long way.
