Stay Hydrated: Best Foods for Hydration

Water is essential for keeping the body hydrated. But there are other foods that can help you to stay hydrated as well.

We all know drinking lots of fluids helps us to stay hydrated. Water is essential for our health and we need to drink at least eight to ten glasses of water every day. This prevents us from dehydration.  Also, because the fact that our body doesn’t store the water, we need to drink water to replenish the supply. So, to stay hydrated we need to drink adequate water and it’s the best option for keeping you hydrated.

But besides water there are some foods which can also help you to stay hydrated. Water based fruits and vegetables are very good for hydration. When you’re thirsty or tired fruits can work wonder as refreshments. They help you feel rejuvenated and help to eliminate more toxins from the body. Green vegetables are also very helpful to prevent dehydration.

Some of the very good foods for hydration are:

Watermelon: It’s a water based fruit that consist more 90 percent of water. Besides, watermelon is an excellent source of Vitamin C, manganese, lycopene and carotenoid antioxidant. So, it not only hydrates you but also provides you lots of important nutrients.

Cucumber: Like watermelon, cucumber is also very high in water content. It’s a great fruit for the summer. It keeps you hydrated and helps to regulate body temperature. Cucumber is rich in Vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and dietary fiber.

Coconut: Coconut water is wonderful for re-hydration. It is probably the best hydrating drink. Coconut water is great sources of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. It doesn’t contain any cholesterol or calorie either. It’s a very balanced drink and a natural stress-buster.

Citrus Fruits: Citrus fruits such as orange, grapefruits, lemon and lime are very good for hydration. Fresh citrus fruits not only hydrate the body but also provide mane valuable nutrients.

Green Vegetables: Green vegetables provide many nutrients that that help the body to stay hydrated and healthy. Some of vegetables that help in hydration are celery, escarole, spinach, bok choy, cabbage and broccoli. Fresh salad, combined of green veggies and fruits, is also very good hydration food.

In addition, fresh fruit juice, soup, green tea and other fruits such as apples and kiwi help body to stay hydrated.
