Traceability has helped 20,000 grape growers like Mukesh Gupta to apply uniform Yet Gaikwad and his partners have hedged their bets and opted to grow wine grapes as well and make their own wine too, which apart from being sold in bulk to Sula is being sold in the domestic market under ND label as well. ‘This is our diversification move, as wine is becoming more popular,’ says Manik Patil, a grape grower and one of the five Directors.
As part of the plan, eight laboratories, including the National Research Center for Grapes, Solapur in Maharashtra, were recognised for issuing the pesticide residue certificates.
According to Pramod, “New technology in producing good variety of grapes can help to increase the intake of grapes by people. It will add value to the packaging to fulfill the increasing demand for grapes”.
