The pomegranate originated in Persia. It is an exotic fruit. It resembles the passion fruit. Both the pomegranate and the passion friut contain a large number of seeds. Pomegranate can be grown in very dry areas and can withstand drought.  The seeds are sometimes used  as a spice. Pomegranate juice has a high level of antioxidants and is very healthy for you. Pomegranate juice is known to lower cholesterol, slow growth of prostate cancer, increase blood flow, and fight off free radicles. Also it helps with heart disease and aging. Pomegranates contain potassium, iron, folic acid, and vitamins. This magnificent fruit originated over 3000 years ago. Pomegranite is widely grown throughout the world. Fruitless varieties are grown just for the beautiful flowers that are red.

The color of the pomegranate fruit center is ruby red. It can be eaten fresh or used to make juices, sauce and desserts. Pomegranate wine is delicious. It can also be used to make make jam and jelly. The juice is sweet with a bit of tangyness. Pomegranate juice is known to reduce plaque build up in the arteries. They are even used in diet for weight control. Pomegranate is also used to make mixed drinks, martinis and vodka. Grenadine is the name of the fruit syrup that is made from pomegranates.

Pomegranate juice is also known for anti-viral, and anti-bacterial benefits. Pomegranates contain many vitamins and minerals.  Zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, calcium, protein, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folate, vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6,  and B9. They also have vitamin C.
