Calcium is popularly known to prevent osteoporosis. My mother always make sure that we drink milk everyday.  She and my father also takes calcium daily.  Yes, health is wealth and there is no better way to protect our health than to take daily supplements of vitamins and minerals.   The foods we eat everyday may not contain all the essential vitamins and minerals that our body needs.

Calcium is an essential mineral for our body’s strong bones, healthy teeth and for the prevention of osteoporosis.  We have to have a regular intake of calcium so we can avoid to have brittle bones when we are older.  However, we also have to note that too much calcium in our body is also dangerous. It is important to take this essential mineral at moderate amounts.

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body which comprises 98% which can be found in our teeth and bones.  It helps overcome many health problems.  It is essential to prevent blood clotting, heart rhythm, nerve transmission, muscle function, and cell membrane function.  Also, this is important for high blood pressure, colon cancer, premenstrual syndrome, heart attack and preventing dental problems as it protects our teeth.

Daily exercise is required to maintain that strong, youthful and a body with strong resistance against diseases.  Not only does exercise gives us these benefits but it also slows down calcium loss of our system. This is one of the reasons why exercise is important to maintain that healthy body. People with osteoporosis are more  encouraged to exercise.  Emotional stress also results to loss of calcium as stress flushes out this element from our body. Calcium is best used with the help of Vitamin D.

Not enough calcium in the body will result to muscle cramps, insomnia, poor growth, growing pains, teeth and gum problems, weak muscles, painful joints and arthritis.  Drinking milk before going to bed helps you get sleepy early.  This is where calcium works. It is a natural tranquilizer and it helps you sleep.

The best sources of calcium are low fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables, fish bones and milk, to name a few.  A glass or two of milk daily is good for the body and thus gives you the many benefits in the prevention of certain diseases that may come at a later age.  Other sources are cheese, soybeans, tofu, broccoli, sardines and salmon, peanuts and walnuts, and sunflower seeds.
