Walnuts are The Healthiest Nut, According to New Scientific Research

A scientific report out this week shows that walnuts are the healthiest nuts you can eat.

New scientific reports suggest that Walnuts are in fact much better for us than we thought, and should be eaten more as part of a healthy balanced diet. The paper, published by researchers from the US, states that walnuts contain higher levels of antioxidants than any other nut.

Antioxidants are proven to help the body in fighting disease, and this study shows that a handful of walnuts contains twice as many antioxidants as a handful of any of the other 9 types of commonly eaten nut tested, including peanuts, almonds, pecans and pistachios. The antioxidants in walnuts were also of higher potency and quality than in other nuts.

Walnuts are also commonly eaten raw, without roasting, which greatly reduces the amounts of antioxidants present, and without added salt too.

Nuts have been known to be excellent health foods for a long time, as they are dairy and gluten free yet contain many vitamins and minerals, as well as fibre and lean protein. Consuming small amounts of nuts on a regular basis can reduce the risks of heart disease, some cancers and type II diabetes.

  1. I hate walnuts though! :( If they have twice the antioxidants though I can just have twice my normal amount of pistachios and I’ll be practically eating a walnut won’t I :D nom nom

  3. I love walnuts and when I was a child, I always asked for icrream with walnuts in it. I also liked ice cream sundaes because of the walnuts. I always though almonds were better for us. This is great news!
