What Can We Do to Protect Ourselves From Toxins?
“Detoxification is noninvasive, safe and remarkably effective for a variety of health problems and for most people. It is based on an understanding of the body’s intrinsic capacity to rehabilitate and heal itself.” – seven Day Detox Miracle by Peter Bennett, N.D., and Stephen Barrie, N.D. with Sara Faye.
Many diseases, illnesses and disorders are misdiagnosed daily and some of them are because of toxins such as lead poisoning or vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Keeping our bodies at their peak condition will not only help us to live longer and healthier but aid us in feeling younger, more vibrant and thinking more clearly.
What choices we make have everything to do with how we feel and how our body responds to different aspects of our environment and life. What are our habits doing to us?

- Our skin is the largest organ of our body and comes in contact with many toxins daily. They can be introduced into our bodies through our skin, the food we ingest, the fluids we drink, and through the air we breathe. One of the most beneficial ways to detox is sweat therapy. Our sweat glands operate as a major thoroughfare for the removal of toxins. Sweat therapy must, of course be conducted properly, so as to avoid a fluid imbalance. It is imperative that lost fluids be replaced.
- Toxins are also stored in fatty tissue, which is another reason that fiber plays such an important part in flushing toxins from the body. Storing toxins in the body allow these toxins to attack while slowing down the body’s natural defense system and allowing it to protect us. Sugars and yeasts begin to multiply uncontrollably allowing undigested foods and other contaminants to enter the blood stream and produce dangerous chemicals. Increasing vegetables, fruits and whole grains assists in taking off weight and moving toxins out of our system.
- The regular use of NSAID medications and other prescribed medications are the source of irritation to the bowel lining and intestinal barrier aggravating the diseased condition of the recipient and the release of chemicals into the system. Take herbals when possible such as ginger root or turmeric to aid in the pain of inflammation. These will not irritate the body and upset the normal balance. Ginger root also assists in neutralizing free radicals in the body and is a powerful anti-oxidant.
- Stress can cause immeasurable damage to the overall health. Learn to deal more effectively with stress by adding relaxation techniques, getting proper rest, mediation, enjoyable healthy activities and outlets, a good support system and prayer. Laughter is another excellent stress reliever.
- Protect your liver. A liver that is overworked becomes sluggish and congested. Herbs such as milk thistle help to revive the liver. A liver that works effectively will positively affect every aspect of the body’s function.
- Improve the circulatory system which is essential for all tissues, cells and skin – this can be improved with hydrotherapy, proper fluid intake and exercise.
- Avoid foods that one is allergic or sensitive to. Some people have various allergies or sensitivities such as lactose intolerance and so forth. Eating the wrong foods may trigger an array of disorders.
Listed below are some foods and supplements that are highly effective in aiding our bodies in detoxing.

Pattiann, I am sure your doctor runs regular liver panels to monitor your liver’s function. It would be wise of you to take herbals to cleanse your liver. If he allows you, switch to ginger root or turmeric for the pain.
Jewelstar, of course. Flushing our system is very important, but we must flush the colon also by using fibers.
Christine, it is hard to not be tempted by all the Christmas goodies.
Yvhes, thank you.
Caesar27, thank you for your support.
