Celery – is a type of plant that belongs to Apiaceae family. It is crunchy in texture and astringent in flavour, a popular addition to salads and fairly popular in the western world. Celery is well known for its medicinal properties and it contains some of the very nutritious vitamins and minerals. Although, mostly this plant is used in making salads or spicing up foods but the roots, leaves and seeds of this plant is used for therapeutic purposes to treat and prevent diseases.

Celery benefits are immense for their nutritional profile. First of all, it contains the phytochemical compounds coumarins and these compounds are effective in cancer prevention. Celery is also very rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin K, potassium, folate, dietary fibre, molybdenum, manganese and Vitamin B6. It also contains good amounts of Vitamin A, Vitamin B2, calcium, phosphorous and iron.

This herb is good for the heart as Vitamin C in it helps to fight free radicals and promotes cardiovascular health. Vitamin C reduces the chances of heart disease, stroke and cancer. Celery juice is very beneficial to lower the cholesterol levels. Celery juice is not only good for cardiovascular health but also very beneficial in treating rheumatism, allergies and stomach disorders. It is also good for treating frigidity.

 It’s a very low calorie food and rich in fiber that’s why it is a very good aid to weight loss. Calcium, potassium and magnesium are good for strengthening the body. Iron and magnesium are helpful in relieving the affects of anaemia. Diuretic properties of celery (because of the presence of potassium and sodium) help to regulate fluid balance in the body by stimulating urine production.
