I genuinely enjoy writing about foods and healthy items that I have either tried or have added to my life. If something works for me, makes me feel my very best and helps to promote the betterment of my life, sharing that with others is a source of joy and fulfillment for me.

Sometimes, I find the simplest ideas, changes, or additions to your life can truly make all the difference. I find this to be even more true when you are on a tight budget, have limited time and appreciate efficiency and ease in your life. Umm, what a minute, this applies to just about everyone, right? After all, who amongst us does not want to save money, time and energy?

So I would like to share another one of my favorite healthy choices.

It takes 5 minutes to prepare and wah lah you have a tasty nutritious meal, side dish or snack depending on the size of your appetite. I’m a person who truly believes less is more and I will just microwave these vegetables and eat them without any toppings. I feel the natural taste is delicious enough. I have found that if you refrigerate and eat them cold, their sweetness is accentuated and gives dish a sweet treat taste!

So let’s find out more about the tasty, superfood known as the yam! While there are many variations of this delectable, hearty non-fat treat, I can only speak about orange sweet potato variant as this is the only one I’ve had!

Why do I love this healthy choice?

Yams are packed aplenty with Vitamin B6 which is an essential to breaking down homocysteine a substance that can threaten the safety of blood vessel walls. In fact, high levels of homocysteine are associated with heart problems and thus the additions of yams in your diet can greatly reduce this risk. In addition, they also contain potassium which works to regulate blood pressure protecting your body from hypertension.

Do you want to lose weight and still feel satisfied?

Yams are full complex carbohydrates which take longer for your system to metabolize and therefore leave you feeling fuller and curbing your hunger pangs for longer periods of time. Manganese is a trace mineral that can be found in this food choice as well. It helps to metabolize carbohydrates producing energy and keeping your body protected with its antioxidant properties. Furthermore, yams also offer you a generous fill of fiber keeping your stomach satiated and your weight nicely maintained.
