Life is Precious
A life lesson about telling your children how much you love – and always make sure they wear their seatbelt.
Sunday, June 14th is a day I will always remember as the day God saved my daughter. My oldest daughter is 20 years old and is in college. She got an internship through college with Texas Parks and Wildlife and is currently living about 150 miles from our home. Her boyfriend went to visit her Sunday and they decided to head to the beach for the day, which is only about 30 minutes from where she is living.
On their way to the beach, a young man pulled out in front of them on a county road. My daughter’s boyfriend swerved to miss the truck and ended up flipping his truck, which had my daughter riding as a passenger. The truck rolled two times and ended right side up.
The young man who pulled out in front of them did stop and made sure they were okay. His cell phone was dead and he could not call for help. My daughther’s cell phone was somewhere in the truck; she later found it in the back seat of the truck. Her boyfriend’s phone wound up in his lap and he dialed 911 and requested an ambulance.
Since the very first day my daughter came home from the hospital after she was born, I always made sure she was wearing a seatbelt. I never let her get in the car without clicking it in place. As she grew up, this was a natural thing for her, she never thought twice about buckling up; it saved her life on Sunday, June 14th, 2009.
Yes, she is scratched and bruised, and suffered four dislocated ribs and a dislocated neck, but she is alive and back at work two days later.
I know that life is precious and it can be taken at any minute. I also know that she is alive because she put her seatbelt on.
Next time you or anyone you love gets into a car, remind them to buckle up!

Great story Cara, and thanks for sharing. Seatbelts have saved many lives, and is law to wear them in many states. It should be law in all fifty states in America, if it isn’t already. I think that it should be put back into law that helmets are required for anyone riding motorcycles. Thanks for sharing your story, and glad that your daughter is safe and sound. Well done.
