Shea Butter Warning
Over 70 percent of Shea butter tested at the American Shea Butter Institute (ASBI) is contaminated. Although these samples were denied the seal of approval; still, these rejected product reach consumers. Contaminants range from lead, mercury, iron, e-coli, salmonella, shigalla, yeast, and mole. Even more alarming, is the fact that less then five percent of all natural Shea butter on the market is lab tested. The US government do not currently have a safety screen in place for Shea butter (a product of West Africa) to be used in the personal care industry. Unfortunately, it is up to you the consumer to seek out tested, certified, premium grade A Shea Butter.
