What is aerobic exercise exactly?

While there are different forms of exercise, aerobic exercise consists of activities that require constant movement which increases your heart rate above its natural state. It burns fat, improves fitness and health as well as cardiovascular endurance.

What are some examples of aerobic exercise?

Aerobic exercise includes activities such as jogging, swimming, dancing, brisk walking and cycling.

What are the benefits of aerobic exercise?

It’s good to know that aerobic exercise is considered the best activity for any age group. It works to strengthen the lungs and heart optimizing heart rate and the body’s use of oxygen. Accordingly, it helps improve the body’s immune system.

Additionally, aerobic exercise helps increase energy levels and stamina, lowers blood cholesterol, and helps the body remain toned and fit.

How long should you do aerobic activity to ensure that it is most effective?

It is recommended to maintain aerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes at a time for about 4-5 times per week. Taking breaks in between activities is completely fine.

How can you make the most of aerobic exercise?

Experts agree that the best way to benefit from aerobic activity is to consistently alternate between different exercises. For example, it is recommended to jog for 15 minutes and then cycle for another 15 and then swim for another 15. This ensures that all your muscle groups are equally utilized.

Exercise with caution.

Be sure to listen to your body. This is especially important if you are starting a new exercise routine or have not exercise in awhile. In such a case, it is very important not over exert your body. Instead, be sure to workout at a rhythmic, steady pace.

If you have any concerns about changing your exercise routine, be sure to consult your physician right away.

There are many causes of bad breath, but with careful study of the problem the cause can usually be determined and treated.

Bad breath, or halitosis, is a problem of great concern to many people. The word “halitosis” comes from the Latin “halitus” (breath) and the Greek suffix “osis” (condition or pathologic process).

There are many causes of bad breath, but with careful study of the problem the cause can usually be determined and treated.

Causes

Dehydration is a primary cause of bad breath. Drink enough water to keep the urine pale at all times. Early morning halitosis is often caused by dehydration. There is no flow of saliva during sleep, which allows putrefaction of the oral epithelial cells which have flaked off, but have not been removed by the flow of saliva.

Disorders of the oral cavity are felt to cause 56 to 85 percent of all cases of bad breath. Poor oral hygiene, plaque, caries, gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontitis, “hairy tongue,” and oral carcinoma have all been known to cause bad breath. Proper dental care, frequent flossing and brushing of the teeth, and brushing of the tongue are adequate to control bad breath in most cases. The American Council Dental Therapeutics believes that mouthwash does not substantially contribute to oral health and the Food and Drug Administration has required the manufacturers of mouthwash to stop using advertisements claiming that their product is effective in destroying the bacteria that cause bad breath. Toothpaste is pleasant to use for oral hygiene.

Breathing through the mouth causes bad breath by decreasing the amount of saliva due to evaporation. Such conditions as enlarged adenoids, nasal infection, hay fever, and a deviated nasal septum encourage mouth breathing.

A foul smelling discharge associated with sinusitis may cause bad breath. Treating the sinusitis will cure the bad breath. Adenoids, pulmonary abcess, bronchiectasis, empyema, peritonsillar abcesses, tonsillitis, etc. and numerous systemic diseases may also induce bad breath.

Treatment

Brush the tongue carefully. The tongue is often coated with food particles or debris and should be cleaned.

If you suspect that you have bad breath you may use a simple test. Touch the back of your hand with your tongue and smell the hand. The odor will give you the answer. Another test is to cover the mouth and nose with both hands and exhale strongly, smelling the breath.

Detergent foods such as apples, carrots, celery, etc., help in cleansing the teeth and removing odor-causing bacteria from the mouth.

Some people believe that outdoor exercise, such as walking, brings more oxygen into the lungs, diluting and removing odorous substances in the system and decreasing bad breath.

Halitosis has also been called “heavy breath.” Reports of food allergies inducing heavy breath have appeared in the medical literature. A trial period of elimination of the most common allergy-producing foods may be worthwhile.

The therapy of true halitosis lies in reducing in the diet the intake of fatty aromatic substances, particularly the milk or butter fats.

Avoiding constipation will help reduce bad breath.

Taking charcoal tablets by mouth will also help reduce bad breath caused by constipation or oral factors. Let the charcoal tablet dissolve slowly in the mouth.

Thyme tea may be quite helpful in cases of bad breath caused by gastric disturbances

There are many ways to increase your metabolism, to help kick-start weight-loss. Here are twelve ways of doing so naturally and cheaply, with herbal remedies, spices, teas and fruit.

Many women spend their lives yo-yo dieting; some take slimming pills or drink slim-shakes, others turn to a miserable diet of rabbit food, and a large number resort to dangerous diet-fads with serious health implications. However, there are many ways to gently increase your metabolism naturally and cheaply (in some cases freely!). Of course, maximum benefit will be seen by combining the following tips with a low-fat and sugar diet and regular exercise.

Source

(On the subject of exercise: you will achieve more taking three separate ten-minute exercise periods than you will with one thirty minute period, Exercise until you raise a sweat, and then stop. The sweat is indicative that your metabolism is working very efficiently.)

Breath deeply. Over the years we’ve become shallow-breathers. Breathing deeply increases oxygen intake, which, in turn, increases metabolism.

Cutting down on the size and increasing the frequency of meals will increase your metabolism. Six small portions of (healthy) food are better than three large meals.

Drinking Stinging Nettle Tea. Believe it or not, nettle tea is a brilliant source of vitamins and minerals, and will effectively increase your metabolism. The even better news is, it’s absolutely free, and the walk you’ll take to collect it will also aid your endeavour!

Eating hot Chili peppers (especially the seeds and pith) increases your metabolic rate for several hours after consumption. They also have numerous other health benefits, which you can read about HERE.

Eating slightly under-ripe bananas boosts the metabolism because they contain high amounts of a full range of B-vitamins. B-vitamins play an important part in the way the body metabolises food. However, ripened fruit are very high in calories so be sure to eat them slightly under-ripe if you wish to encourage weigh-loss.

Guarana contains high levels of caffeine. However, unlike coffee, it releases them slowly over a long period, which means the consequent boost in metabolism is more stable, and effective for longer. This natural berry product is widely available in health stores and online.

Cayenne Pepper, like chilli, contains an active ingredient which raises your metabolic rate for a period after consumption.

Seaweed is a natural metabolism booster and is also high in beneficial nutrients. You can buy a natural seaweed supplement from your local health store – ask for Kelp.

Twitch or Couch-grass is a herb used in teas to stimulate and harmonise the metabolism. Available online or from your local herbalist.

Green Tea. This beverage has gained popularity recently, due it’s many suggested health benefits. The supposed reason for the effectiveness of green tea in weight-loss is that it contains atechin polyphenols which can change the body’s level of norepinephrine, thus increasing metabolism.

Mustard, like the previously-mentioned spices, is a natural metabolism booster, and is available cheaply in most supermarkets.

Dong Quai is a traditional Chinese herb known to effectively increase metabolism, through various means.

Throughout history, medicinal plants have been paramount in the treatment of disease, for all people - from the commoners to those in power. Medicinal plants have been written about by scholars, in the Bible, and in ancient manuscripts, and are still as important to health care today as they were thousands of years ago.

If there’s anything of this world that leads me to believe there’s an intelligent, organised creator/source, it’s the fact that we can treat virtually every condition known to man with a natural, or naturally-based, product. I’m fascinated by the idea that every plant has it’s medicinal use (as suggested by Paralaceus – the renowned 15th century physician) and convinced that each and every illness and disease has it’s perfect natural cure.

Medicinal plants have been used to treat illness and disease for thousands of years. Even now, they are economically important, being used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, perfumery, and food industries. In recent years we’ve seen a explosion in the number of natural products and beauty products containing natural extracts, although claims are often wildly exaggerated to increase revenue. Many natural products are more expensive and difficult to source, with a far shorter shelf life, so using them in large enough amounts to create effective products is costly..

Source

It is not known why plants contain the answer to so many of man’s needs, but our environment not only feeds us and provides us with nutrients and vitamins, essential to our growth and general well-being, it also magically presents us with the keys to our biggest problems in life: illness and disease. At this point in time, only around 10% of the vast range of plant species has been discovered by man, meaning the potential for many more effective cures is there, just waiting to be discovered and utilised.

Many plants contain active constituents of known medical benefit, and often these chemical substances are impossible to create synthetically, or just too expensive to create for synthetic production to be economically viable. There are at least three hundred natural chemical substances used in medicinal preparations today, one example being flavonoligans from Milk Thistle fruit – which is cultivated in South America – being used in a drug to treat liver disease. Indeed, the world relies heavily on man-made chemicals produced from medicinal plants. Active substances are first isolated, and then extracted to be used by drug companies in pharmaceutical products. It’s fair to say that most of the medicines you’ve been prescribed for the various illnesses you’ve succumbed to over the years will have had a natural foundation.

Source

However, whereas we now turn to regulated doctors for prescribed forms of chemically produced medication, we once visited traditional herbalists – the wise-women, shamans or witches, and in later centuries a local apothecary – for natural cures to ill health. Over the centuries man made use of medicinal plants, even when unable to rationally explain their effects, and it’s possible that disease and the initial discovery of natural cures played a huge part in creating the superstitions and myths believed by ancient peoples. For early man, the search for a cure was an instinctive self-preservation technique, and these first efforts to ensure the survival of the human race formed the basis for all future medicine and healing.

In addition to medicinal plants, there are many more that are used as such by themselves, in teas, extracts, or tinctures. There are several hundred, perhaps even thousands, of species of plant used in traditional folk remedies, taken by our ancestors in days of old, and by many living in the modern world.

All drugs are currently classified as either hard or soft, with most natural medicines falling into the soft category. This is because they tend to have a mild action, with effects occurring over a longer period, whereas synthetic varieties have a more rapid action. Consequently, natural products are more beneficial in cases of non-acute illness, and are better used to protect against natural diseases, for treating chronic diseases, or for aiding progress when in recovery. They can also be used very effectively in therapeutic treatment.

However, not all natural medicines have a mild action, with many being poisonous when ingested in the wrong quantities. For this reason it’s very important to consult a qualified herbalist before beginning any kind of self-medication.

Image via Wikipedia

The History of Pharmaceutical Medicine

It was in the 15th century that the knowledge of medicinal plants and medical practice became more widespread, in the form of compilations, known as herbals. This period coincided with the discovery of the New World, when Brazil was claimed for Portugal. Europeans were as interested then as they are now in medicinal plants and their uses, and quickly began importing new species, and medicinal products, such as balsam and tropical drugs. These plants were grown in Europe’s botanical gardens and the products were sold in apothecaries, many of which were located in monasteries.

Indeed, right up until the 19th century, there was no doubting that ‘materia medica’ was the supreme form of medical practise. Evidence of this is provided in the form of the many vessels, jars, and pots used for storing drugs and medicines, discovered over the years, and all that’s been written about them.

Source

However, there came a time when it was envisioned there would eventually be a day when medicinal plants would no longer be necessary: in 1805, Frederich Wilhelm Serturner isolated the opium alkaloid morphine. This discovery laid the foundation for the development of pharmaceutical chemistry, and the late 19th and early 20th century saw a huge swing in the direction of synthetic medicine in what was called a ‘victory over nature.’ Traditions stretching back thousands of years seemed set to die out forever. But, as time went on, it became apparent synthetic products caused many side-effects and, of the many hundreds of synthetic medicines that have been created since that time, only aspirin has survived with it’s reputation mainly intact (and even this has been questioned in recent years). Aspirin is, in fact, a semi-synthetic version of a well-known drug obtained from willow bark.

The last decade has seen a return to natural medicine by many westerners, particularly women, and largely thanks to the ‘new age’ movement, which has taken the US and the UK by storm. I believe this is a step in the right direction and feel it’s important that we take more responsibility for our personal health, particularly preventative care.

It would be nice to think that health authorities will take the time in future to fully investigate the possible uses of each and every planet on found the planet, and remember to revere nature, and to understand that we humans will not only never be victorious over her, but depend on her for all the answers we seek.

Using an exfoliator on your skin can yield unwanted results if you do not choose the correct type. With so much to choose from these days it is much easier to find something suited to your skin.

Sensitive Skin

For those with sensitive skin you should try and find a gentle exfoliator, preferably a natural one suitable for your skin type. Look for ingredients such as sugar, jojoba, vitamin E and Aloe Vera. Also make sure that there are no harsh chemicals such as parabens in the scrub (these can be identified by the suffix ‘paraben.’) Look for retailers and websites that promote natural, handmade products and you will find that these are fine for sensitive skin. If you do find a daily scrub then it may not be necessary to use it on a daily basis even if it is for sensitive skin, if you find that you can use it just three times a week and gain the desirable results then do so.

Dry Skin

With dry skin you need to ensure you get a product that won’t dry you out even more, just the process of putting water on your face to wash the scrub off will dry your skin. Try and find a product formulated for your skin type or turn to other methods of exfoliation for example you can buy exfoliating facial wipes which need no water to work. They will also remove makeup, cleanse and tone. Try and use a natural product, ones with chemicals in tend to dry your skin out even if they do claim to be moisturising. When using any product even one that is formulated to moisturise your skin, apply a moisturiser afterwards whilst your skin is still wet.

Oily Skin

For this skin type you need to ensure that the product does not contribute to your oiliness. You could get away with using a daily scrub to remove oil and all the dirt that clings to it. This will prevent spots, rid you of that oily feel and prepare your skin for makeup.

Acne-Prone Skin

There are products out there specifically produced to combat acne, even if you just get one or two spots every so often or you suffer with acne quite badly investing in a product such a Clear and Clear face scrub can help to keep skin clear. If you prefer natural products then look at ones that contain tee tree and that are non-comedogenic, meaning they don’t clog pores, this will help to banish spots. These should be used daily or according to the instructions on the pack. When washing your face with the scrub, to wash it off you should use cold water, although this is less preferable to using warm water (especially with the impending winter months approaching) but it will help close your pores to any oil or gunk from your makeup that may cause spots.

A look at the homeopathic remedy from a different point of view.

There are many of us out there who have trouble coping with the stresses of everyday life. Along with that, many of us also suffer from depression and general (as well as other types) anxiety. For most, the obvious answer is to talk to someone, see a therapist, or simply schedule yourself an appointment with your doctor. However, if you’re like me, you’re somewhat determined to find a way of dealing with your issues on your owns; and without prescriptions.

Now just to clarify where I stand, I am by no means agaisnt prescription medications. In my personal situation, I don’t feel that I need to be on prescriptions for my issues at the moment. Having felt depressed and anxious for quite some time, I only recently decided to try and do something about these problems.

First I tried St. John’s Wort. A quick Google search can tell you about the breakdown of this. I felt worse off using St. John’s Wort, but I stuck with it for about two months. I tried again for another two month period, after stopping for about four months. Unfortunately for me, the trail was the same as the first.

I was shopping at Whole Foods one day and just went down the “medication” isle to get somewhere else, when something caught my eye. There was a whole display of these little tubes that looked like Chapstick. Intrigued, I stopped and looked into it. There were all sorts of “problems” listed, such as Everyday Nervousness, Mood Swings, and even more medical-specific issues. I wasn’t able to tell if there were any differences. In fact, I still am not sure if the pellets for Mood Swings are the same for the otheres. Regardless, I decided “what the heck, what do I have to use; I’ll give it a shot”.

I bought one tube of Ignatia Amara and learned how to take it. You turn it cap-side down to the ground, and twist to dispense. You’re supposed to take 5-6 pellets about 3 times a day, which sounded a like a lot to me. Regardless, I did this for about a week.

Thoughout the week, I read up all that I could about the product but wasn’t finding anything I believed to be trustworthy. Everything I was finding seemed to be some hippy-sounding garbage that I had no faith in. Scenarios were given as to where Ignatia Amara would be helpful. Acute grief from sudden loss popped up everywhere, which I found interesting. Google it; and you’ll find the same information.

It was unclear to me if you’re supposed to keep up with taking Ignatia Amara in a certain way. I took it everyday but eventually only once a day. I do believe that it helped me. Being a very nervous person, I lucked out as to when I decided to start taking this. It was the first week of classes starting again, as well as a new job. I didn’t feel as strange as I usually would, and I do believe that that may have to be because of the Ignatia Amara. I often would be hesitant to walking into a crowded room (or into a classroom that was full and I was late to arrive) but I felt alright.

I stopped taking it since I ran out, and I feel like my old self. I do believe that Ignatia Amara was helping me, and I would like to try it again.

So my advice to anyone in a similar position as myself; give it a shot. If it might help you, then it’s worth it!

When harsh weather comes along such as a hot summer or a cold, windy winter the soft skin on our lips can suffer. Lips can often feel rough and dry leaving an uncomfortable sensation, or they can crack and become painful.

Sun Block

Using a lip balm with an SPF factor can help to shield lips from the drying effects from the sun’s heat not only will it stop lips getting sore from being burnt it will also help to moisturise leaving lips soft and supple. Just like your skin your lips can get burnt or dried by the sun causing that drying and tightening effect. Of course this doesn’t always help to protect from the other causes of chapped lips such as wind damage.

If you do stay out in the sun for too long and you do find your lips drying out you must moisturise them immediately to ensure that they do not begin to crack and become painful.

Vaseline

Although petroleum jelly can provide an instant relief to dryness it is not something that should be used over an extended period of time. The reason for this is it coats the lips in a moisturising formula which makes the lips think that they need not produce any of their own moisture. Once the Vaseline stops being used the lips still aren’t producing their normal amount of moisture, thus leaving them drier.

Using Something Natural

A natural lip balm is more likely to be gentle on your lips. The last thing you want is to put anything with harsh chemicals in on your lips, the skin there is soft and delicate and even products claiming to soothe lips with various chemicals can just worsen the situation. Use a product that uses nothing but natural ingredients and look for ingredients such as Shea butter, Cocoa butter and Beeswax. These natural ingredients are known for their healing and moisturising properties and regular use with ensure your lips are plump and soft.

The best natural product we’ve found is something called Emu Lip Balm from www.emu-oil-well.com comes in loads of yummy flavours and is guaranteed not to harm your lips in anyway, just soothe and moisturise the pain and discomfort away.

Another good product to look for if you have cracked skin around your lips is E45 cream; although not natural it is a good thing to use once or twice to clear up a lot of dryness somewhere like the corner of the mouth.

There's really no need to spend your hard-earned money on expensive and fiddly treatments for wart reomval...

…when all you need is a common potato!

Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus which, after treatment, remains in the cells causing re-infection at some later date. There are many products available for removing warts, some of which are expensive as well as fiddly – and possibly painful – to apply. They are not always effective. There are also many natural or alternative remedies, some of which are quite bizarre – but I can tell you from experience there’s one that really works!

Instructions For Wart Removal:

Simply take the potato, slice off a piece, and rub the wart with the inside of the potato slice.

Do this several times a day, or whenever you are able to, for two weeks. You can use the same potato several times – just slice it again before using, then wrap in cling-film and leave in the fridge until the next application. Replace the potato with a new one as soon as it begins to dry out.

The natural chemicals contained in potatoes will gradually kill the wart, turning it black in the process, and you’ll wake up one day to unexpectedly find it has vanished! Truly, I kid you not – this method cured my son’s wart in just a matter of days!

If the wart hasn’t been cured within one month of continued treatment you should see a physician or health professional.

Bones and raw food, if it's good enough for your dog, it's good enough for you!

BARF stands for Bones And Raw Food, a diet some dog owners have claimed is more natural and beneficial for their dogs. Advocates of this diet insist that this is what dogs were “meant” to eat. True, dogs could certainly not make Kibbles ‘n Bits all on their own, after all, dogs do not have opposable thumbs, and many struggle to read recipes.

Dogs have been chewing on bones and eating raw food since they were wolves. Of todays dog breeds very few resemble their wild ancestor, the wolf. So why should we expect them to eat the same?

At one time humans too ate their food raw too. Many people still do! Insects were not only consumed raw, but live, as well. Under the logic of dog owners who want to feed their dogs a more natural diet, I propose that people also go back to their early days of eating a diet that was mostly insects and plants, with the occasional lucky catch of raw fish or meat thrown in here and there.

Although most people think of sushi as being raw fish, it is actually sashimi which is truly the thin slices of raw fish alone, sushi adds rice, and sometimes is without the fish. Sashimi and sushi are not only treats to eat, but are usually arranged artfully on the plate for presentation. People rarely arrange their dogs dishes so well.

Along this line, for humans who think BARF is so good for their pets, and wish to put their money where their mouth is, I present namasu, or basashi. Care to try it, this is thinly sliced, raw, horse meat.

Carpaccio is the name given to raw beef, veal (calf meat), venison (deer), or tuna. Although this dish had its origins in Italy, it has made its way around the world, and possibly even into your own kitchen. Carpaccio is usually thinly sliced to make chewing easier.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Carpaccio.jpg

Tartare, no relation to Tartar sauce, is raw meat (usually cow, horse, or deer), chopped up and often marinated in wine or lime juice prior to being consumed. Occasionally this dish is made even yummier by the addition of a raw egg on top.

Raw eggs are another interesting raw food many people feed to their dogs. Often touted for giving the pet a shiny coat, they would do wonders for people do, and in fact, many people make it a daily ritual to drink one or more raw eggs.

Dogs consume insects all on their own, humans who eat bugs are practicing Entomophagy. Humans have a long history of eating bugs, and we still do it today, whether we like it or not. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many foods are allowed to contain various amounts of insects, and insect “parts”. For example, frozen broccoli may contain 60 or more aphids and/or thrips and/or mites per 100 grams. Chocolate may contain 60 or more insect fragments per 100 grams. Haven’t you wondered why we call our food “Grub”?

Although insects may have been a common food of the past, they are still eating (intentionally) in many parts of the world and are often considered as the “Food of the Future.”. For the amount of time it takes to raise insects, the amount of food they need to eat before being eaten, an insect is far more efficient at converting into protein, than is a cow. As the population of the earth grows, beef will be expensive as cattle farmers are forced off their land by urban sprawl. Raising insects for consumption is something any one can do in their yard or roof top. The great thing is, although you can, you do not have to cook them!

Finally, we have all the other boring foods that many of us eat raw already, these being fruits and vegetables. Most people already know about these, so there is no additional point of mentioning them.

Health concerns.

Any raw meat, be it served to humans or pets, has the potential for problems. Worms, other parasites, and bacteria may be present, especially if the food is not handled or prepared correctly. With raw eggs, there is a particular concern about salmonella.

As with BARF for dogs, a diet that is strictly raw, unprocessed, food, some benefits from additives may be lacking. Although many commercial dog foods use low quality ingredients, meeting only the minimum requirements for nutrition, there are some excellent all natural dog foods available. Those top foods use additives as a good thing. Glucosamine and Chondroitin, help ease joint pain, and Yucca helps reduce odors.

From now on, don’t just feed raw pigs feet to your dog, have a few for yourself, it is part of our natural diet!

Dessert

Humans did not invent fire, but they eventually learned that fire came in handy because cooked meat was easier to eat. If dogs had the luxury of evolving opposable thumbs, would they too have found a cooked dinner to be more palatable, and easier to chew? Would dogs be making meatloaf?

Remember, if it is good enough for your dog, it must be good enough for you. But it sort of makes me wonder, if dogs could cook, would they?

A less-expensive and all-natural approach to hair loss.

Losing one’s luscious hair can be a traumatic and a life-altering experience. After all, amazing hair is right up there in the first impression category with great teeth and well-manicured nails. So, when you’ve suddenly begun to clog your shower drain or have started finding “surprise” clumps on your pillow, it can cause anxiety levels to rise to the highest degree.

Before beginning any new ritual, always begin by consulting with your doctor, that way anything serious can be ruled out and/or dealt with. But if your hair loss is caused from the multitude of “beats me” factors, then give these all-natural remedies a fighting chance.

Worth diving in head first:

Castor Oil

Strong hair is hair that will never abandon ship. In other words, a well-nourished gorgeous scalp will keep hair thriving and happy. Castor oil is the best oil I have found for incredibly strong, thick and voluminous hair. Mix a teaspoon of Castor oil into your shampoo directly into the palm of your hand, and follow with a half-teaspoon into your conditioner (both shampoo and conditioner should preferably be herbal, minus all the harmful irritants for the best results). You will immediately notice the difference in your hair’s texture and density and gradually find your hair loss dramatically decreased. Give it a go, you will NOT be disappointed.

Black Strap Molasses

Gulping down two teaspoons daily (although difficult for some) will do wonders for energy, overall well-being and absolutely beautiful hair and skin, which is possibly due to it’s high levels of iron. Iron deficiency can be one factor in sudden hair loss. The people that swear by good old-fashioned molasses take it in a variety of ways. Try it to spice up coffee with a tablespoon, in warm soy milk as a mystical latte or even mixed in a couple of teaspoons of peanut butter. Make sure it’s unsulphered for the best results. I’ve even put it directly on my scalp for a deep-nourishing intense treatment. It’s a sticky process, so be gentle and allow to seep into your scalp for at least 30 minutes. Gorgeous, gorgeous hair will follow.

Skin and Hair Vitamins (one that includes 1000 mg. Of Biotin)

A must-do practice for those lacking in the healthy-eating department. Results will be obvious in about three months, so patience is definitely in order here..

Emu Oil

An emu may seem like just an awkward, clumsy, flightless bird to you, but to the Australian Aborigines, this bird held magical healing properties for a multitude of ailments. Emu oil is highly penetrating, anti-inflammatory and non-comodogenic, which means it will not clog up pores. Rubbed directly onto scalp and leave in overnight, and then get ready to watch the healing begin. Sleeping hair follicles will be awoken and strengthened. Such an amazing oil that is definitely worth further investigation.

Aloe Vera

Used for ages by the people of the Caribbean and Native Americans, Aloe Vera has been touted as a leading promoter of the prevention of hair loss and luscious healthy hair. Aloe Vera will balance your scalp’s PH level, as well as aid in healing. Using Aloe Vera to mix into your daily shampoo or with a carrier oil such as jojoba, Castor or olive oil will provide deep soothing and penetrating healing.

Sage Tea

Create an extra-strength Sage tea herbal rinse. Steep two bags of pure sage tea in 8 ounces of very hot water for about 10 minutes. After hair has been shampooed and towel-dried, gently pat and massage cooled tea into scalp. Rinse and bask in your full, rich hair. The healing properties in this aromatic tea are holistic and a major treat for all of your senses to enjoy.

Olive Oil and Rosemary

If you’ve tried home-spun conditioning recipes before for glorious hair, then no doubt, you’ve soaked your precious locks into olive oil, but have you thought to add the very potent Rosemary? This essential oil is proven to heal, even the most stubborn scalps, and provide an unequaled nourishment for super-healthy and an easily manageable mane. Rosemary adds antioxidant effects and adds loads of shine, not to mention it’s proven strengthening capabilities.

Sesame Oil

This overnight treatment will allow you to wake up to ultimate sheen and a new vibrant hair vitality. Sesame oil rubbed into your scalp and then covered with either a just-outta-the-dryer warm towel or basic shower cap for an overnight ritual will not only relieve scalp irritation, but will wake-up weak and tired hair follicles.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Check out your local health food store and find unfiltered raw apple-cider vinegar that contains the “mother strain”. This form of apple cider vinegar contains essential probiotics that stabilizes your hair’s natural bacteria balance. Prepare this superior treatment by mixing equal parts of ACV and water (4 ounces and 4 ounces). Add in drops of the essential oil sage (8-10 drops will suffice) and gently massage into scalp. Wrap hair in a towel and prepare to leave in for at least 30-45 minutes. Follow-up with your herbal shampoo and conditioner and make sure to to do this every other wash, or at the very least, once a week.

Neem Oil

In India, neem oil has been used for ages as a preventative and combative tool in hair loss. In order to get the full effects of the amazing Neem oil, it’s best to use as a deep intense conditioning treatment. Directly massage neem oil into scalp and hair, and leave in overnight. Wash out with your herbal shampoo, or even better try a specialty shampoo that also contains neem. Potentially perfect hair is closer than you think.
