Everywhere, advertisers prey on feelings of insecurity and body inadequacy. The average person is constantly exposed to claims that belly fat is ugly, unwanted, and this or that diet or exercise or latest fad will get rid of it. Women and men resort to starvation, bulimia, and other forms of self-destruction or self-mutilation in hopes of improving body image.
