Gavage is from a French word meaning "to gorge." This term pertains to the force-feeding of ducks or geese in order to fatten their livers. This is done to produce foie gras. The Chicago Tribune had a full page picture of a goose being force-fed. That did it. No more meat for me. Shoving a long tube down a helpless animal’s throat is beyond cruel.
