Burns
Some kinds of burns you get and how to treat them.
Burns destroy skin, which controls the amount of heat our bodies retain or release, holds in fluids, and protects us from infection.Burns are also tissue injuries that arise from thermal, chemical, electrical, or radiation exposure. Burn-induced skin loss affords bacteria and other microorganisms easy access to the fluids that course through the body. This loss also provides a conduit for depletion of these fluid.So If you think a burn of any type is significant, do not hesitate to call 911 immediately.
Burns range from mild to life threatening.Some burns that you get can be treated at home and other more dangerous burns need medical attention right away.Here are some types of burns.
- First degree burns are usually caused by short contact with heat and can cause pain,redness,and some swelling.
- Second degree burns are just more pain,redness,and blisters.
- Third degree burns can be painless if there is nerve damage and they are the deepest burns.
To treat the burn if you can not get to a hospital.
DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OIL TO ANY BURN.
- Call 911 if it is a second or third degree burn and if burn has a large burn area.
- take off all the cloths from burned area unless the cloths are stuck.
- Remove all jewelry that is close to the burn and make sure not to touch the burn because it will hurt.
- If it is a first or second degree burn then run cool water over it until the pain lessens.When I say cool I do not mean cold.
You also need to contact the hospital or 911 if.
- The burn looks infected.
- If burn is on face,hands,feet,scalp,and in your private areas.
- If the burn came from an electrical wire,fire,or from chemicals.
The person who was burned has
- dizziness or confusion
- weakness
- fever or chills
- shivering
- cold sweats
Things you can do to ease the pain.
- While the burn is healing, wear loose natural clothing like silks or light cottons so your skin will not be irritated.
- Run COOL water over the burned area.
As you can see burns are nothing to play around with.You need to always treat a burn even if its a small one.
