Hair

Hair, our crowning glory. We give so much importance to our hair that it seems that if it’s not in place, we’re history.

Hair is so popular that even expressions have been created, or thought of, using it.  Expressions like: Keep your hair on, or pulling ones’ hair out, or having a hair-raising experience, letting ones’ hair down,  make ones’ hair stand on end,  get out of my hair, enough to make ones’ hair curl,  to be grabbed by the short (and curlies?) or even having a bad hair day.  Hair is referred to as our crowning glory.  Some have it styled to their own pleasure, some just leave it natural.  Some go to the ends of the Earth to have it like they always wanted.  People with straight hair want it curled.  People with curled hair want it straight.  The demand is so great that hair dressers and hair stylists have appeared almost on every corner of every building of every street.  Hair is something not only for the female of the specie.  It is also something for the male of the specie.  It represents you.  The first thing people see is your hair.  Is it long?  Is it short?  Is it styled?  Is it a mess?  Is there any at all?

When it comes to style, that’s a handful on its own.  New styles crop up every day.  Styles from Mohican type, to dreadlocks, to braided, to Teddy boys and to I have no idea what.  Some even have a picture shaved in their hair all the way down to the scalp.  Some just purposely shave it all off.  Perhaps they want to be noticed or are they trying to prove a point?  Do they want to show us that they are not like everybody else and they can primarily do what they want and when they want?  And why shouldn’t they after all? It’s a free country anyway.

Short hair can be beautiful.  Long hair can be beautiful. Having none at all opens up a totally different perspective, but there is help at hand available.  Help in the form of wigs is available, if one so wishes.  There is a variety of wigs to choose from.  Long, short, curls, no curls and all the different colours you can imagine.   One can even have a wig tailor-made just for that person if one can dig deep enough into ones’ pockets.  Having no hair has its advantages on the other hand.  Think of all the time you save not having to go to the barber or hair dresser or hair stylist?  Think of all the money you save not having to buy shampoo and conditioner and gel?  No more sleepless nights worrying about split ends and no more looking for hair nets or rollers or hair dryers.  Think of all the time at your disposal in the morning when you look in the mirror and just brush your teeth and go out instead of having to worry about your hair?

And what about colour?  Hair colours are as abundant as the colours in the rainbow.  There are however the natural ones.  There’s brown, black, ginger, red and blonde.  Each colour is usually closely amalgamated with ones’ character.  Brown and black can be temperamental, warm, loving and caring.  Ginger is a mixture of feelings.  Red is normally owned by very warm blooded people.  What about blonde?  Blonde is in a class of its own.  Blonde as a colour has had many an assault.  Many a joke has been told about blondes.  Many a ridicule which personally I find it to be somewhat exaggerated.  If the assaults were founded, why do so many black and brown coloured hair owners want to become blonde?  Blonde is beautiful.  Blonde is attractive.  Blonde is popular and besides, aren’t gentlemen supposed to prefer blondes?
