Can You Lose Weight by Eating More Dairy Products?

A simple run-down of the dairy food group diet claims.

You know what I’m talking about…the ads that claim you will lose weight if you add more dairy to your diet. Is that true? Well, not exactly.

The studies were small and had no real control group. Greater weight loss was found in the group of people who were told to cut calories & eat dairy foods. Hmmmm…. seems like the whole “cutting calories” concept was the real winner here that had little to nothing to do with dairy products. Two studies since have found that do not help people lose weight, and the government nutrition advisory panel has called the evidence on dairy & weight loss “inconclusive.” Going on this theory, this weight loss claim could have been nearly ANY food group substituted in these small studies and would have gotten the same results. The bottom line hasn’t changed and won’t. The truth is that it’s about getting the correct amount of calories (not too little, not too much) that determines whether you’ll lose, maintain, or gain weight. Bodies function best when they get some of all food groups. There is no magic weight loss food group… it’s how much fat & calories we’re eating about. Pretty simple.
