Chewing The Fat
Diet is the main part of losing weight, but little changes in lifestyle can add up.

One of the changes I made to lose some weight was to chew more gum. If your mouth is occupied with chewing gum it’s a lot harder to eat something. If you can grab a fresh stick now and again you can get some of that oral pleasure and stimulation that food would otherwise provide.
Another change I made was to drink more water. When some oh so helpful colleague rolls over with the free donuts just say no and take a swig of water. When another so called friend puts a tray of bear claws in front of your nose put an apple in your mouth and bite down hard.
Some health researchers say that we need to have a goal of taking 10,000 steps per day. I have never quite stepped up to that but I do find excuses to go up and down stairs at work whenever possible. I also almost always park my car some distance from the door of restaurants and grocery stores. Since every step counts stop looking for step savers and instead look for excuses to get up and walk.
Even though we are told that the military is hurting for recruits these days, some of our kids are still having trouble meeting the weight standards. I guess gone are the days when you could depend on the military to shape up a troubled, overweight young man.
Since there is no minimum daily requirement for refined sugar, drinking less soda and drinking more water is almost always a good idea. Although taking vitamins is controversial with many doctors agree that taking more fish oil is a good idea. Look for excuses to include more vegetables and less processed food in your diet. I do not live the vegetarian lifestyle and I therefore don’t recommend it but less meat is probably better for your health. The people who say meat is murder and don’t eat anything with a face also say that eating less meat is better for the planet too.
