Cider vinegar is considered to be both a food and a medicine. Its active factor is a combination of minerals, organic matter and acetic acid. Cider vinegar is high in minerals and low in natural sugars and vitamins. The minerals found in cider vinegar include potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and trace elements. According to Dr D.C. Jarvis of Vermont, the versatile healing effects of cider vinegar lie in its ability to associate its potassium with other minerals. It is also widely used by different populations as an effective means of weight control.

In his book Cider Vinegar, Cyril Scott describes the miraculous effects of cider vinegar on many ailments such as diarrhea, indigestion and circulatory disorders. Yet he also points out that cider vinegar itself is not a universal panacea. It works just by improving biological processes which as a result helps to optimize the bodily functions and cure the various physical disorders, including obesity.

Cider vinegar for weight loss

People become overweight for a number of reasons: a fatty diet, overeating, a sedentary lifestyle etc. Scott, however, holds the opinion that the major cause of obesity is insufficient oxidation of the blood. To address this issue, a proved simple and safe treatment is cider vinegar. Cider vinegar helps weight loss by increasing the rate at which food is converted to energy. Simply take two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water first thing in the morning, preferably with two drops of iodine from seaweeds. For better weight loss effect, you can take this cider vinegar solution before each meal during the day over a period of time.

It is important that cider treatment for obesity be accompanied by a calorie-controlled diet. So during the treatment process, try to avoid salty and sugary foods.

Cider vinegar for weight gain

Apart from the overweight people, cider vinegar is also a remedy for those underweight. Underweight people are understood to be lacking in enzymes and so are not able to   use their food properly. Being rich in enzymes, cider vinegar helps weight control by normalizing body weight. Another possible reason for people to be underweight is deficiency in certain minerals. Since cider vinegar supplies the body and different organs with a variety of minerals and regulates the functioning of these organs, normal body weight will be restored. To achieve the purpose of weight control in this instance, take one tablespoon of cider vinegar and one teaspoon of honey with a glass of warm water upon rising in the morning. This dosage can be repeated in the evening if preferred.

A couple of tips should be kept in mind when using cider vinegar for weight control. For one, always use organic cider vinegar with the mother. For another, cider vinegar may not work the same for different people. Some might be allergic to it and therefore should stop using it once any signs of allergy are detected. Yet for most people, cider vinegar for weight control is quite safe and simply wonderful.
