Eight Ways to Lose Weight Without Going to The Gym

As a fitness instructor at a small gym in my hometown, I have noticed these 10 healthy steps people are taking to lose weight, without our help.

Mike1229 here, on weightloss tips… yes, I can write about other things than MTG! For the past 5 years I have been employed as a fitness instructor at a small gym. While many people come to the gym to lose weight, I’ll save you the trouble by pointing out 10 lifestyle changes that could save your wallet from a heavy gym membership fee in these hard times.

  1. Take the stairs! – Live on the 4th floor? Take a little walk upto your room instead of waiting for the elevator! Not only will you burn off some extra calories, but you’ll most likely beat the elevator to the top!
  2. Stop Drinking Pop! – Diet or not, pop is bad for you! While sugar free pop won’t stick to you like regular pop, it still does not really quench thirst, it just fills you up!
  3.  Do 2 planks per day! – Once in the morning and once before you go to bed get down on all fours and see how long you can hold yourself up! Pushups and situps can help too!
  4. Potato Chips are the Devil – No matter how “fat free” potato chips claim to be, American still eat way too many of them! Eat because you are hungry, not because you’re bored!
  5. 3 meals a day – Eating three square meals a day with healthy portions and few snacks can help keep your metabolism in check.
  6. Take a walk! – Sound redundant and repetitive right? Taking a hike in the woods can not only help you exercise your body it can exercise your mind. Watch out for treadmills, for they can cause shin splints.
  7. Stay on your toes! – Staying bouncy and off of your heels when you walk or run not only encourages good form but uses much more energy than dragging your feet.
  8. Do it yourself! – For small projects such as tilling the garden or plowing the driveway, do it by hand rather than using power tools! A little sweat never hurt anyone!

Hopefully these small lifestyle changes can be put to use by everyone to create a happier healthier community! Stay active outside the gym. Don’t see it as “the place to work out”, use it more as an option. Before you go paid the big bucks for membership, evaluate what you can do to stay healthy without it!
