Keeping a Food Diary helps in weight loss.

One of the smartest and easiest steps to aid in weight loss is to keep a Food Diary. A Food Diary is exactly just that: a record of your daily food intake. You may keep track of several things in your diary or you can keep it simple, whatever, in any case, this is an excellent way to help yourself stick to a weight loss plan.
Like I mentioned earlier, you can be anal and record calories, protein, fiber, fat, and all other nutrients. But just consider listing your daily menu. That should work just fine. This will help you actually keep track of what you eat on any given day and allow you to notice patterns of unhealthy eating that you never considered before. You can also go a step further by listing the reasons you are eating other than hunger, the cravings, your feelings about your diet…it doesn’t matter. It’s your diary, let it all out as you like.
When you start a food diary, keep in mind that you don’t have to keep it traditional like journal by the bed with a little lock and key. You can of course, use whatever kind of recording and writing tool you like best (or afford ;p). For some people, a plain notebook works just fine. Some keep the diary in their PC; fire up a word processing program and keep the icon on the desktop. Others prefer to use Excel or any other data processing program; this is especially quite helpful when it comes to adding the totals at the end of the day. Keep the diary in your laptop or PDA, or slip a cutesy notebook in your bag during the day– it doesn’t matter. Use whatever tool that fits your lifestyle.
Remember to update your food diary daily and review it the end of the week in order to track your progress. You may also wish to mark in your diary when you hit certain weight loss goals or when you gain weight to look for probable causes. You can show your diary to professionals to make sure that you eating and staying healthy.
Food diaries have worked great for a lot of people who have tried losing weight; you should try it.
