Gastric Bypass 2

This is the bad side of Gastric-Bypass.

In a previous article I wrote about my success in having Gastric-Bypass surgery. I stated that I believe in order for the surgery to be a success, you have to be mentally prepared for this life changing event.  One of my best friends wanted to have this surgery and I supported her 100%, although her family was against it they stood by her.

In January of 2006 she went through with the surgery, the only difference between her surgery and mine was the Dr. that performed it. I was not real happy with the Dr she used, but with the insurance she had he was her only option.  She was doing really good until about a year ago, I don’t know what happened but she started loosing a lot of weight, her weight before the surgery was 360lbs, she is 5′10 as of today she weighs 90lbs.

I talked with her about the things that had changed for me after my surgery and what she could expect after she had her’s. I stressed to her that she needed to be mentally ready for these changes, she assured me was ready. Looking back I wonder if I should have tryed to get her to wait a little longer before having it.

She has been in and out of the hospital, she has a tube inserted for feeding  plus her PCP is having her to eat every hour if she can. Her Dr  ran a calorie test to see how many calories she is consuming in a day and it came up 0, she can no longer walk by herself, she is seeing people that have passed away, she thinks we have conversations that never take place. I don’t know how much longer she can continue like this, she has been diagnosed with a eating disorder. She told me she wanted to see what is was like to get below 100lbs, she has a fear of gaining her weight back. I have tried to make her understand she would have to overeat every time,  and anyone that’s had this surgery knows its way to painful. I wanted to write about our experience with the Gastric-Bypass and hope if anyone reading these post will really think about and prepare themselves for the changes that comes after having the surgery.
