How to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

How can we stay motivated to continue our exercise regime? What strategy or method should we use?

We know we can’t live without it but we also keep putting it off until something happens to our body. This is none other than exercise. Exercise is always a do-it-yourself venture. No other person and no machine can do it for you. Hence, it is important to have those motivating factors so that we can live a more productive life.

Weight loss needs a life style change and an ongoing forward momentum to keep it going to be successful and beneficial. Although the tendency to revert back to a sedentary life style is very strong and an easy way out, with some goals and guidelines, we shall go a long way to keeping our weight down. There are many reasons in order to keep you motivated to exercise and stay healthy for the rest of your life.

1. Have a precise and an explicit goal – Be as specific as you can about the number of pounds or kilograms that you would want to lose. Envisage yourself what you will look like after reaching your desired weight. Post before and after photos on your refrigerator door or bathroom mirror. Doing this will inspire you to lose weight. In fact, maybe even more than what you have planned in mind. The idea is to use that figure or photo to assist you to remain resilient and dedicated.

2. Develop a strategy – To lose weight and stay with it, your strategy must comprise of both exercise and diet, and not either of the two. Take some decisive action such as by throwing away your clothes that have bigger sizes. This will put you in a situation where you only have your sexy clothes and that you have to make a choice by staying motivated to exercise or not wear any clothes at all.

3. Have short term, reachable and measurable weight loss goals – Put into practice actions that will suit your lifestyle. Walk up and down the stairs instead of using the lift and escalator, do some stretching or walking on the spot while waiting for your dish to cook, have the mop or broom as your dance partner while cleaning, and much more. Be creative. The idea here is to opt for a more positive and attainable goal and not just to shun away from being plump and chubby.

4. Let others know about your weight loss goals – It would be better to have somebody willing to take note of your progress or development. This will inspire you to keep on doing what you have started. Having somebody to listen to your achievements is definitely a better prize than just achieving your goal alone. Besides, having an extra hand to support you and cheer for you when things start to fall short. It is that simple way of hearing somebody believing on what you do is one of the greatest motivations to keep you exercising for more.

5. Construct a vigorous, sensible timeline – Better safe than sorry. Treat your body well and not force it lose all those extra weight that was gained through the years within a few weeks or months. Stay focus with a diary until you get into a routine and slowly increase the repetitions or amount of exercise needed.
