Lose Fat the Right Way

While it is not easy to shed your excess fat, it is important to first begin to understand that doing so could prevent a whole lot of grief as far as your overall health is concerned. All it takes is willpower and determination. Bear in mind, that obesity could eventually prove destructive to your health. It behooves you to wake up to reality, while there is still time to lose weight.

Janice wanted to be a healthy mother, enjoying life with her husband and two children.  The most recent photograph taken, together with her family, said it all:   While her husband and children appeared composed and quite at home, she looked uneasy.  There was no doubt that she barely squeezed herself into the photograph, her broad smile contradicting the truth about how she felt about herself.  She kept staring at her 200-pound frame, so much so that she felt at once reluctant to show the photograph to any of her friends. She had gained about fifty pounds over a period of about six months, and for the first time, she could see, in detail, the overall effect of her careless lifestyle photographically personified.  She felt a sudden surge of guilt, as she began to realize that she was actually setting a bad example to her family, instead of trying to present herself as a role model.

Janice admitted that she always thought about her next meal without paying any attention to its nutritional value.  She enjoyed eating out several times a week, particularly in restaurants that served generous portions.  Breakfasts were prepared country-style: bacon, eggs, hash browns, biscuits, sausage and gravy. Lunch was, more often than not, a liberal serving of spaghetti, smothered in meat sauce, with garlic bread, covered with cheese. Dinner consisted of steak, potatoes, slathered with sour cream, with the corn rolled in butter, topped off with peach cobbler, or a brownie, and a handful of cookies. The menu in each category ought to give anybody an idea as to what the aftermath of binging on such extravagant portions would be and their adverse effect on any body’s health.

Looking at herself in that family photograph served as the trigger that would soon reshape her lifestyle: She began learning how to prepare low-fat meals at home. She started reading health magazines and collecting clipped nutritional recipes.  She also acquired a comprehensive cookbook guide of popular restaurants where she could order her meals wisely, and limit herself to 1,400 calories a day, while maintaining a daily journal of her weight, the food she ate, as well the calories and grams of fat it contained.

Janice began starting her day with cereal and a banana, or an egg-white sandwich on a bagel.  Lunch consisted of salad, with fat free dressing, a bowl of home-made soup, prepared with lean meat or chicken, with no oil.  For dinner, she ate skinless chicken breast, lean steak, mushrooms, baked potato, and fresh green bean, or any other kind of vegetable, loaded with nutrition.  For dessert, she satisfied her cravings with sugar-free Jell-O, banana slices, and fat-free whipped cream, or a serving of fat-free pudding,  an English muffin with sugar-free jam or jelly.

Janice’s old lifestyle did not just end at the dining table. She began increasing her activity by exercising everyday.  She began using an aerobic walking machine after the kids went to bed.  After the first six weeks, she lost 15 pounds, then began losing another pound or two each week, until she got down to 128 lbs.  Her measurements slipped from 45-42-50 to 34-26-35, a total of 42 inches.  Besides losing weight, Janice energized herself with laughter and fun, before taking another photograph in which she appeared as gorgeous as the rest of the family in the group.
