Losing the Post-Pregnancy Pounds
The advantage of exercise is that you don’t have to exercise for 60 consecutive minutes to burn the calories you need to burn, which all moms know is pretty much impossible to do. Here are some ideas.
I just recently had a baby, and boy, did that little bundle of joy wreak havoc in my body! I have stretch marks, a c-section scar, gained a whopping 70 lbs, and somewhere along the line, I even lost my self-esteem. I went from toned, athletic, and slim, to flabby, chubby, and crummy.
To make matters a little worse, I had hurt my lower back lifting weights a few months before getting pregnant, and of course, the pregnancy did not make things easier on my back. I had a healthy – if heavy- 10lb baby that just continued wreaking havoc on my back.
An exercise regime is pretty much out of the question given the fact that I can’t really do much without screaming in pain due to my back injury. But I have been able to shed 50 of the 70 lbs following this simple rule: Whenever I can, I do a little extra, just to keep me exercising.
I take the “long way” around my house. I’ll walk once around the kitchen island, then hop a few times while smiling at my baby, go up the stairs, and then do a little dance, baby in arms. This routine does two things for me – It makes me move at my own pace without pushing it while bonding with my baby.
I will also take my baby for a ride around the house, with mommy as horsey, and baby as gallant rider.
Sweeping had never been so fun as when I think it will make me burn the 3000 calories I ingested in that irresistible dessert.
And sure, it has taken me almost 8 months so far to lose about 50 lbs, but I have had a blast with my baby, haven’t injured my back any further, and best of all, have not had to burn time and calories for 60 minutes at a time.
