Low Calorie Lunches

Brown bag lunches that won’t blow your diet.

Trying to lose weight is difficult, no matter what, but when you are on the go, it can be even more difficult, especially if you are a student.  Many schools do not offer healthy alternatives for lunch, and taking a sandwich every day can get rather boring.  Here are a few suggestions to help you stay out of the dieting doldrums.

Try spreading a teaspoon of honey mustard on a low-carb tortilla, and add a serving of thinly sliced black forest ham.  This tasty roll-up is about 115 calories.  Add some carrot sticks for crunch, 100 calorie pack of chocolate covered pretzels, a diet soda or bottle of water, and you have a delicious and filling lunch for under 300 calories.

Another option is a 100-calorie bagel with a tablespoon of fat free cream cheese and a teaspoon of Polaner All Fruit spread.  Add a banana or apple and a container of Jello sugar-free pudding, and lunch is done.

A third option is 17 slices of turkey pepperoni, 7 triscuits reduced fat crackers, a reduced fat string cheese stick, apple slices and a couple of Hershey kisses.

Low calorie wheat bread, chopped boiled egg, fat free mayonaise and a dash of mustard make an easy, but substantial egg salad sandwich.

Also, if you are able to take a thermos or insulated container to lunch, soup is a wonderful option.  There are many low calorie varieties of soup available, from chicken tortilla, to meatball, to classic vegetable.  Most of these are packed with vitamins and make a nice alternative to cold foods in the winter.

If you are able to heat your lunch, a rice cake, spread with pizza sauce, fat free mozzerella cheese (and some turkey pepperoni if you like), makes a delicious and very low calorie pizza.

I’m sure if you put your mind to it, you can come up with many other options and food combinations, but hopefully, this has helped you to think outside the box and realize the many diet-friendly options you have.  Variety is the spice of life, so enjoy!
