Summer Foods You Can Eat and Not Feel Guilty

Here are some great summer eats that can be easily substituted and can help you from gaining weight or inches on your waistline.

Here is a list of summer foods you can substitute and look good this summer:

  1. Ice Cream- America’s Favorite Frozen Treat since the 1700’s. Problem: Ice cream has too much calories, fat, and sugar. Solution and Substitution: Try Frozen Sugar Free Cool Whip instead and don’t eat it on a cone because it would add more calories. Tastes like ice cream, but you’re not adding calories to burn.
  2. Gas Station Slurpees and Icees- Good frozen drinks to cool you down during the summer. Problem: These slurpees and icees have too much calories and sugar. Solution and Substitution: Eat Sugar Free Popsicles or a cool favorite Sugar Free Bomb Pops by Blue Bunny. Cool and refreshing without waistline gain.
  3. Lemonade- Refreshing summertime drink. Problem: Lemonade has too much calories and sugar. Solution and Substition: Try sugar free lemonade by Crystal Light or a store brand alternative or try making homemade lemonade with Splenda instead of sugar.
  4. Hot dogs and Hamburgers- America’s pastime favorite food to grill. Problem: Hot dogs and hamburgers have too much calories and fat (especially turkey burgers). Solution and Substitution: Remember, seafood is the best food when you are watching your waistline or weight; Grill fish, shrimp or scallops (you can also do shrimp and scallops on kabobs with vegetables). Great grill taste with less calories and fat.
  5. Potato Salad, French Fries, and Potato Chips- Appetizing side dishes during the summer. Problem: Potato Salad has too much calories, fat, and carbohydrates. French Fries and Potato Chips have too much sodium, calories, fat, and carbohydrates. Solution and Substitution: Instead of Potato Salad, French Fries, or Potato Chips try eating a baked potato without the butter and sour cream; you can also try making baked french fries or eating lower calorie potato chips made with Olestra (frying oil that is better for you). You can enjoy the potato without the bulge.
  6. Strawberry Cheesecake or  trifle with berries, pudding and pound cake- Great desserts to eat while looking at the beautiful outdoors. Problem: They both have too much calories, fat, sugar, and carbohydrates. Solution and Substitution: Try to make strawberry shortcake. You still get the berry flavors you would get out of the Strawberry Cheesecake and the Cool Whip Taste you would get out of the trifle. Or you can still do the trifle, but put sugar free pudding in instead. Enjoy summer desserts without gaining a pound.

Other Ideas:

Eat more vegetables. They will not penalize you like a lot of the summer time snacks will.
