The Three Last Weight Loss Tips You’ll Ever Need

Simple interventions that will shift the pounds without making you tired, irritable, frustrated and generally pissed off.

  • Drink more water – Beverages like soft drinks and coffee/hot chocolate take up a lot of calories which could be spent on other foods. Don’t cut out every sweet drink during the day, but try replacing a lot of them with water. It has zero calories, it’ll fill up your stomach and make you feel full and it helps everything move through your system faster so your body won’t be able to absorb as many calories. As an added bonus, it’ll clear toxins out of your system, helping with cellulite and acne. Plus, staying well hydrated is important for kidney health and to keep your skin looking young and wrinkle free! Last but not least, all the calories you save but not absent mindedly drinking Coke or Pepsi all day can be put toward waffles, ice cream, chocolate, whatever you like! Of course, I’m not endorsing those things, but more on that later…
  • Exercise in the comfort of your own home… while watching TV I watch shows like The Biggest Loser too and I see them running and jogging and hiking and for me, it just looks like too much exercise. It’s almost impossible to go from zero to a hundred overnight, you have to start out slow or else you’ll either hurt yourself or end up exhausted 2 days later doing absolutely nothing and regretting exercise altogether. It’s important to start out with something gentle like yoga, pilates, aquarobics or tai chi. If you start running marathons straight away, your excess weight could cause you a lot of health problems. When you run, up to four times your body weight is transmitted through your feet and you can get tiny fractures which develop over time. Plus, if your body isn’t used to running, the sudden increase in blood supply to the muscles in your legs can cause compression, ischaemia and a heck of a lot of pain – even permanent damage. Also, i know self consciousness can be a big factor. When it feels like everyone is looking at you and judging you, it’s really difficult to get out there in non-flattering tight pants and show everyone your jiggly bits. One option is to go running in secluded areas early in the morning or late in the evening but that kinda sounds like asking to be killed by a serial killer… my favourite idea is exercising at home – you can go at your own pace and the TV is right there to distract you and stop you from getting bored. An exercise bike is a much cheaper option than a treadmill, and there’s always the option of aerobics – all you have to do is dance around, get the heart rate up and do your best to work up a sweat. Weights can also be helpful, dumbbells come pretty cheap from sporting stores or you can just use bottles or water or cans of soup.
  • Eat the foods you love – just in smaller portions Denying yourself the foods that you’re craving is just not going to work. You’ll be sick of that regime in a couple of days and you’ll be right back where you started, maybe even worse. That’s the whole idea behind yoyo dieting – you set standards that are ridiculously unattainable, realise it’s hopeless then wallow in a hole of self pity and too much chocolate. The secret is to make changes slowly and do it a little at a time so that it’s sustainable. But we all need our treats now and again, so don’t cut them out of your diet completely. Instead of having a large meal at McDonalds, make it a small. Don’t get fries. Get juice instead of Coke. Have a square of chocolate for dessert instead of a bowl full of ice cream. Just get the taste of whatever it is then fill your stomach with something healthy – that way you get the best of both worlds! Best of luck everyone, don’t be too hard on yourselves and remember that every positive thing you do is a step in the right direction!
