Beauty, Self Esteem and Body Image

The ideals of beauty that are being foddered by an increasing plastic surgery culture is eroding the self esteem and self concept of women whose body do not meet the critera of modern standards of beauty.

There is one thing that I love about this world and that’s its biodiversity! There is variety within every species on our planet regarding size, body mass proportions, expertise, physiological contouring and form. Everyone is different then why can’t we accept the differences in others?

Why are humans fighting to defy the laws of nature and to enforce their own mindsets on others.

Why can’t we accept the multiplicities of evolution and beauty?

One of the basic principles that human psyche lacks and it is the ability to understand that dissidence and difference does not necessarily mean disunity nor does it mean that another’s ideology or perception is wrong.

We clamor everyday trying to force people to concur with our perception with little regard for individuality and self proclamations. Those that do not conform to our ideals are estranged and exiled from the social circle.

We strive to achieve homogeneity with little thought for the feeling of those that we trample in our quest! I have learned that I will never see a person’s genuine worth until I look beyond his physicality. It takes a keen eye to distinct a mere rock stone from a diamond when both are covered in dirt!

Many of us can attest to associating with individuals because they meet the familiar facial contouring and body conformity that defines beauty only to discover later that so called beautiful people have the most hideous personalities and grotesque views on life!

Additionally, facial form and contouring are no longer the only yardsticks that aesthetics is measure by! The size of a woman’s body as a determinism of her aestheticism is being perpetuated and cemented by capitalism mainly the manufacturing, fashion and entertainment industries. Marketing has begun using women as means of endorsing products with the underlining message that people look the way they do because they utilise a these products. Women all over the world are now binge eating, vomiting their guts out and starving themselves in order to achieve a physique that mirrors that of Hiedi klum not that there is anything wrong with Miss Klum physique!

But how many of us will ever look like Heidi Klum? Miss Klum’s physique is a combination of genetics, metabolism, discipline and tenacity towards nutrition and excersise. Miss Klum has probably been skinny all her life.

I am not saying that women should gain weight to balloonic proportions which would lead to health problems and shortened life span. I am basically saying that women should love the skin that they are in! Fat can be beautiful if women would wear clothing that are appropriate for their body type and clothing that accentuated their assets instead of trying to wear clothing that degenerates their attractiveness

Look at our primates cousins, there are big gorillas and small chimpanzees! They have dissimilar yet identifiable means of hunting, food accumulation, mating rituals and interactions! And we accept them just as they are. Then why can’t we accept the distinct yet sharply defined and comprehensive differences in our own species.

Why can’t we accept that beauty has variety and that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! Beauty is not rigid. There was a time in history when beauty was defined by how corpulent a woman was and there are still places in this world where flared nostrils and thick lips are considered the highest standard of aesthetics. In places like Africa, pubescent girls are fed thousand of calories per day in order to “fatten them up” for marriage.

In some parts of Africa, a rotund physique is considered a sign of high status and beauty! A three hundred pound woman in Africa is eligible to marry doctor over her skinny counterpart than she would if she lived in the Americas. Even so, there are still men that enjoy a plump woman. You just have to know where to find them. Men especially of Caribbean descent won’t have a problem with their women being a little on the plump side. A Jamaican man calls a plump woman “strong woman” and finds her roundness sexy and as a sign of health!

However not every Jamaican man will want a fat woman as an infiltration of the American culture through acquisition of cable television and satellite TV has greatly altered their cultural perception. A Jamaican man in his late thirties is more likely to want a relationship with podgy woman than a twenty year old Jamaican man!

So if you are feeling a little on the ugly side. Cheer up! There is hope! A little self confidence building and amendment in self concept can do wonders to yourself image. If you feel as if you can improve your “human physiographics” then do the necessary adjustments.

Exercise greatly improves body contours, mood and confidence as unwanted weight sheds metabolism increase as the body gains more muscle mass and certain hormones such as endorphin are secreted which improves ecstasy and elation in moods!

A change of friends and social circle can do wonders for one’s self concept and self confidence. In many cases, friends often tear down each other in an attempt to establish hierarchy and leaderships. Keep worthwhile friends that aid in developing your innate passions and skills. If you have a friend that constantly badgers you about your appearance in a scathing and discriminatory way then you need to sever ties with that person! Remember there is a huge difference between constructive and destructive criticism. The former builds the latter tears down that which is in some cases already in need of repair! Every joke maybe a half true, therefore friends that constantly insult you, using jokes as a plaster should also be avoided.

Additionally, pursuing knowledge, higher education or a course also greatly impacts one’s self concept. A person who is intelligent and knowledgeable is less likely tolerates mediocrity and substandard behavior towards him/herself. Knowledge enables a person to exude air of confidence that will enable people of higher importance to be drawn to them.

And that’s the next thing that you need to do and that is stop attracting parasites to your life. You need to have the posterity and carriage that will attract the type of people that will foster symbiotic relationships with you!

You are number one and aesthetics proves nothing! You can become all that you envision with investment of time, tenacity and ambition. You just need to discover what your niche is and work on it! Do not sideline your talents and aptitudes. You will be surprised at how a worthwhile investment in your innate dexterities can be rewarding.

Love the skin you are in because if you don’t no one else will. Do not allow anyone to discredit it or validate your anatomy. It’s yours which means only your validation counts! You will discover that once you have connected with yourself it makes connecting with others easier. Bring your A game and play ball. You are going to be the winner.
