Being Overweight Can Lead to a Difficult Delivery

Nowadays most women are having much weight during pregnancy. This can lead to having heavy baby and can cause difficult delivery. Here’s why.

In the past two decades, the women have been gaining more weight so this is difficult to deliver the baby. Some researchers found out that this may be fueling an epidemic of childhood obesity.

There are nearly 30 percent women had heavy babies, and those are 14 percent with gestational diabetes who had normal weight gains during pregnancy.

Women having weight more than 40 pounds can also gain baby much weight, the babies also increased and have much fat. The research ahs found that women who gain more than 40 pounds (18 kg ) during pregnancy have nearly twice the risk of delivering a heavy baby.

In Portland, Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research of Dr. Teresa Hillier, said that women having more weight during pregnancy lead to have babies much weight and do not have gestational diabetes; these babies are programmed to become overweight or obese later in life.

Gaining much weight and having heavy baby can cause risks for a difficult delivery and it lead to increases the chances of vaginal tearing, bleeding, and Caesarian-sections for the mother and the risk of stuck shoulders and broken collar bones for the baby.

The researchers suggest that all women should avoid excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Women who are being treated for gestational diabetes should also strive to keep weight gain below 40 pounds.
