Caffeine Raises Risk of Miscarrying

Caffeine double a woman’s risk of miscarrying their baby.

For several years now medical professional have been warning pregnant women not to drink caffeine because the caffeine will have a negative effect on the unborn child. There is now definite proof that caffeine consumption can raise the risk of the pregnant woman miscarrying; that proof is in more than 18 different medical studies.

Caffeine can be found in the following:

  • coffee
  • tea
  • chocolate
  • some medicines

Women who congest 200 mg or more of caffeine everyday double their risk of having a miscarriage. Why would a woman knowing these results risk the life of their unborn child just to have a cup of coffee. As a mom, a woman has to put her coffee cravings behind her and focus on having a healthy child. You can drink coffee after you give birth to a perfectly healthy baby. That is of course unless you decide to breastfeed, if so you need to refrain from drinking caffeine until after you stop breastfeeding.

All women should talk to their doctor’s about the effects of drinking caffeine during pregnancy, but most doctors agree that having one 6 oz cup of coffee or anything less than 200 mg should be fine and cause no harm to the unborn child.

If you are a pregnant woman, ask yourself one question: do you really need that cup of coffee or your child?
