“Of course, sex is everywhere in the media. But the idea that we are vital, sexual creatures is still looked at in some cases with disgust or in other cases a bit of embarrassment. So to really take a look at how our sexuality adds to our life and enhances our life and our health, both physical and psychological, is eye-opening for many people.” – Joy Davidson, PhD, a New York psychologist and sex therapist,

Here are the health benefits of sex:

RELIEVES STRESS

It lowers our blood pressure and overall stress reduction. Those people who had frequent intercourse were associated with lower diastolic blood pressure in cohabiting participants.

BOOSTS IMMUNITY

It may help our good physical health. Those people who have sex once or twice a week have higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A or IgA. That means it can protect us from getting colds and other infections.

BURNS CALORIES

A Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Theparists, Patti Britton says that “Sex is a great mode of exercise.”

It will burn 85 calories or more, if you had sex in thirty minutes. Or it will burn 3,570 calories, if you had done it in 42 half-hour sessions.

It takes work both physical and psychological perspective.

IMPROVES CARDIOVASCULAR

The researchers found out that having sex twice or more in a week can reduced the risk of fatal heart attack by half for the men compared to those who had sex less than once a month.

BOOSTS SELF-ESTEEM

Is one out of 237 reasons people have sex, this was according by University of Texas researchers and published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

“One of the reasons people say they have sex is to feel good about themselves,” Gina Ogden, PhD, a sex therapist and marriage and family therapist in Cambridge, Mass. Says, “Great sex begins with self-esteem, and it raises it. If the sex is loving, connected, and what you want, it raises it.”

IMPROVES INTIMACY

Patti Britton says, “Oxytocin allows us to feel the urge to nurture and to bond.”

If you had sex and orgasms increases levels of the hormone oxytocin, the so-called love hormone. It helps us to bond and build trust. The researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of North Carolina have done with evaluation, about 59 premenopausal women before and after warm contact with their husbands and partners ending with hugs. They found out that the more contact, the higher the oxytocin levels.

REDUCES PROSTATE CANCER RISK

Men who had five or more ejaculations weekly during their 20’s reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later in life. Another study found out that the frequent ejaculations, 21 or more a month, lower their prostate cancer risk in older men, compared with less frequent ejaculations of four to seven monthly.

HELPS YOU SLEEP BETTER

It helps you to sleep better because the oxytocin released during orgasm also promotes sleep.
