View on the risks and statistics of having children after age 35, and information about a few women who have rolled the dice.
What is the proper age for women to STOP having babies! (theoretically)
Almost, every woman dreams of having a child of their own. But, what is the right age to stop having babies? Studies have shown that the peak age range for a woman is between 18 and 25. So why are 60-70 year old women having babies?
Do you know that fertility drops dramatically after age 35. Studies have shown that by this age fertility is about ½ its normal peak as it was when we were in our 20’s. The by age 40 most womens fertility is at a 15% and declining rapidly. That means that naturally a woman at age 44 has a 1% chance per month of conceiving naturally.
So, I ask why are so many babies being born to 60 and 70 year old women.
THE ANSWER: SCIENCE.
Women who conceive naturally and during their peak age have complications during pregnancy. If you don’t then you are quite lucky. Normally, you have swelling, back aches, heartburn, symptoms that are easy to cope with.
But, as you get older women around 35 start to experience different signs of complications during pregnancy. They range from diabetes, high blood pressure, the chance of still birth goes up by 25%.
Women over the age of 35 have a greater risk of birth defects, and miscarriages before their 20 week mark rises from 12% to 25% by the age 40.
Women ages 50 to 63 have a 40% chance of have a healthy baby. So does the reward of being a parent out weigh the risk?
So, what are some of the record OLDEST WOMEN TO GIVE BIRTH……….
- In 2003 Indian Satyabhama Mahapatra at age 65 gave birth to a 3 lb. baby boy.
- In 2005 Romanian Adriana Iliescu gave birth to a 3 lb. baby girl named Eliza. That’s the happy side to the story. What most don’t know is that her twin sister died in the womb. Baby Eliza was premature and delivered by c-section.
- In 2005, Indian Omkari Panwar a grandmother of five gives birth to twins. Both twins a boy and girl weighed in at 2 lbs. each, also delivered by c-section.
These are a few of documented births to women over 50. Although their methods were not natural, were they safe?
Being a mother has to be the most rewarding job I can think of but, when we put the health and well being below our own selfish wants now that needs to be addressed.
Think before you look to invetro. Consider all option, weigh in will my baby be healthy, or will their be signs of my negligence later in their lives. Some birth defects and complication don’t show up til decades after our children are born. Please, use caution when bringing new precious lives into this world.
So I ask you, HOW OLD IS TOO OLD TO HAVE A BABY?
