Late Abortions

Why you should not have a late abortion.

Abortion is a common way of dealing with babies that have abnormalities, are unwanted pregnancies, or are dangerous to the mother’s health. Abortions are more beneficial when done early because they’re safer for the woman, but as the weeks go on it becomes more risky and has a greater chance of complications. About 40 women a year in WA are having a late abortion between 20 and 34 weeks, which is creating problems for the abortion process.

Abortions are used to abort babies that have physical, psychosocial or mental disorders so they don’t have to live abnormal lives. Some of the disorders are: brain and heart abnormalities, dwarfism and musculoskeletal disorder. Abortion is also used for someone who accidentally got pregnant, like a 13 year old. These reasons, if severe enough, may be terminated, but if left late can be refused because it would be better for the baby to live on.

Late abortions are controversial because some people believe that a baby is alive and able to feel pain as its nervous system is developed. When a baby is aborted it is sucked out of the uterus and ejected out the body as a liquid and solid mix. Legally in Australia after 21 weeks the foetus is an infant, in a late abortion the baby has to be ejected alive, and when it comes out with nothing to sustain it, it dies painfully. This action is almost murder because it was alive and can feel pain.

Abortion Report

Complications are the risk factor in an abortion and may cause problems in the future for the mother and baby. The risk of difficulties increases as the weeks accumulate which means that late abortions have a higher chance of problems. A complication may cause the mother to get an infection, cramping and bleeding for up to eight weeks or the baby to have more abnormalities than what it started with. Failure is a rare occurrence in abortions but is made more common in late abortions and may lead a repeat of the procedure.

A late abortion is not the way to go as the baby’s life is at stake, and unfortunately is given a low priority. Abortion is becoming murder to the living baby, because it is old enough to breathe and feel. The 40 women in WA that are having late abortions are putting themselves at risk of infections and the baby at risk of a painful death and more abnormalities. A late abortion is not the way to go.
