I remember, back in the early 1970s that the father of one of my school friends died suddenly of a stroke. He was a young man, a bank manager by day and enjoyed the odd squash game by night. He maintained that, as he had a sedentary job and remained for most of his working day behind a desk, it would benefit him to exercise two or three nights a week. It’d also relieve some of his working day stress. He had no history of health problems, was seldom ill and so, it seemed, he was doing the right thing. So was it this energetic exercise following a sedentary and stressful job that caused his untimely death? Certainly it seems that this could well have been the case.
